  1. The camelias of Descanso Gardens have a dark origin. When Japanese Americans were rounded up for internment during WWII a family had to sell their entire nurseries of camelias to the founder of Descanso. It's unclear whether he took advantage of the circumstances. At least today we can enjoy peace, beauty, and cultural exchange.

  2. Excellent video. I’ve live in Southern California all my life but visited the Descanso gardens once. Now I want to go again, just to visit the Japanese garden.

  3. The gardeners at these famous American gardens are so lucky to have a master Japanese bamboo craftsman teaching and sharing his amazing skills with them!

  4. Thanks again for your fantastic work, please continue these. I had no idea of all the gardens in my country! In the future would you also consider making a JGTV special about moss in gardens?

  5. Looks like quite the adventure you went on in the States! I wish I could take part in an event like this. I assume since this is a North American association, that they must be present here in Canada. There are a few major Japanese gardens that I have been to in Vancouver, near Victoria, and in Lethbridge Alberta where I went to University. Looking forward to more videos, especially the one in Seattle because it is so close to where I live.

  6. I would give two likes (👍👍) if I could…this journey is our destination. This is an incredible artisan series, and thank you for bringing it to us!

  7. Looking at these traditional garden make me feel peace. I got sick of all of the modern hightech

  8. Great for you and Japanese bamboo artisan Mishima-san share wonderful garden bamboo-working skills with American gardeners. And welcome to our 'Mediterranean' SoCal climate region, hardiness zones 9a-11b. It is very dry and can get very hot but we still love to tend our hardier native plantings in our gardens. Awaiting for your continuing trip videos across the USA visiting the various beautiful Japanese gardens.

  9. Congratulations for your excellent work , showing the skills from Japanese gardens masters .
Japanese craftsmanship is beautiful, tranquil, full of life and natural materials that creates a sense of well being .
    Thanks a lot !

  10. I did not learn jack sh*t about building a Japanese fence from this. Darn! I was charmed by the setting in La Canada and the result od the efforts. And we did not see the other locations. Disappointing.
