While on vacation, I was throwing back a sour beer or two with family at Jester King Brewery an hour outside of Austin, Texas. Then I saw my favorite words…”FARM TOUR.”
I HAD to go on it, and I also had to attempt to film it for you all, because it was incredible. Farmer Peppy, the head farmer at Jester King, was super knowledgeable about permaculture and had a unique approach to growing grapes, hops, and edibles.
The edible garden alone was fascinating with the way he intermixed pollinator and pest-repellent plants with tomatoes and other delicious veggies.
Not to mention the MONSTER melon patch and plans to build a melon launcher for an annual melon festival.
It was inspiring to see firsthand the integration of permaculture and sustainable farming practices in an industry like beer and wine. Plus…Peppy is just an awesome dude who loves the land and loves talking about it!
