  1. I had the same moment of "yikes! Garlic is sprouting!" the other day – thankfully it seems to be a good sign the garlic is rooting super well, and we can just ignore it. I'm only a few hours north of you (Metro Vancouver in BC) and we've had an very warm fall – so looks like it's just giving things an extra boost? I'm going to cover them up with leaves in a couple of weeks and trust in the plants!

  2. We keep a bunch of winter squash for the chickens over winter!! A local you pick place always does free pumpkins after Halloween for live stock and we take my car (4 wheel drive) out in the field and fill it up! If we had bigger live stock we’d take a truck but we’ve just got chickens and turkeys so a car load is more than enough for us to put enough pumpkins in the basement for us and the chickens!

  3. I don't know if you know this or not, but thought you'd like to have this information. The leaves from beet plants make delicious greens when they are gently steamed. They are very sweet and are my favourite summer treat, even though I haven't had a garden for a few years.

  4. Jus in my opinion I think you put 2 much in some of your beds. Plants need a bit of space 2 breath & there jus so overcrowded in places. Maybe next year space stuff out more & not as much of certain things, like tomatoes, etc!!

  5. Maybe save that flat area for a good play area. Eventually with kids youll want a swing set & trampoline, etc & all those need flat land. Just a idea!

  6. Put your pepper plants in cool dark space for 2 weeks, then in your grow room with good sunlight or grow lights for the winter 😊

  7. You can over winter your carrots if you put a low tunnel over it. We cover our carrots with lots of mulched leaves then cover with the low tunnel "fleece" . I double the fleece because it's too long for my rows. I can harvest all winter long. For reference I am in Wisconsin.

  8. My garlic always sprouts in the fall, but it doesn't get as cold in my area of NC. We also don't get as much snow…if any. So that might make a difference. But mine has survived freezing temps and up to 6 inches of snow.

  9. The garlic will be fine. I'm in Ohio zone 6a, mine always sprouts and when the temps drop it stops growing and go's dormant, sometimes the green leaf's will freeze and die back, but in the spring new shoots come up and its fine.

  10. In the fall I collect fallen leaf's to use as leaf mulch for the next season to keep weeds at bay. If you have a nice thick layer of leaf mulch around your plants once they are large enough it keeps most weeds away from my experience.

  11. Thank you for taking us along your gardening and cooking projects. Already lerned a lot from you. About the "old" garden, the only flat area, why not use it as a playgroung and soccerfield?

  12. Becky if your chickens could talk!! It’s been a joy watching you and your garden today – your plans sound amazing!!🥰🥰☘️🇬🇧🎉🎉

  13. Here in the South I don’t plant my Garlic 🧄 until the end of November. I keep the bulbs in the fridge for a minimum of 8 weeks prior to planting them to manually force Vernalization because down here in the South it does not get cold enough for long enough.
My comment is really just advice for any new gardeners here in the south struggling with growing garlic 🍻

  14. I live near you and I cut my snapdragons back and they overwinter and are beautiful from year to year 👍🏻
