I have dreams of what I’d call a doorway greenhouse. Something small that can sort of “attach” to my back door. Like a walkway between inside and outside except all my plants live in there. I have a baby and he’s getting more mobile, I also have a shit load of plants and I’m definitely going to need to put them somewhere out of the way soon. My biggest concern is that we live where it gets super cold in the winter, zone 5. Is it even practical to heat a small greenhouse over the Chicago winter? If so, where should I start? I’d ideally like to just buy one that I can put together and attach to the house. Does such a thing exist? Do I need to make plans for it myself? And if heating something like this isn’t practical over the winter what’s some other things to consider? Right now my plants are on shelves under grow lights. Pic of my current set up for attention.

Your current setup is really nice! Are you able to block that area off so the little one doesn’t get to the plants? If not, can the plants be moved to an area that can be blocked off? You could also get some floor grow lights for the larger plants. As for the greenhouse, I’m all for getting what you want :)! The issue comes with what you’re willing to spend on a greenhouse that will keep the temps reasonable during the Chicago winter for your plants. Aside from a greenhouse outfitted with all the necessities, to include proper insulation, ventilation, heat, etc…there’s the cost to heat during winter.
