One Yard Revolution: Cover Crops, a Blanket for the Worms, & a Winter Salad

Join me as I add 7 new bags of leaves to our collection, check on the cover crops, lay down a thick layer of leaf mulch, remove the snow from our cold frames and polytunnels, and pick a fresh salad of greens from the winter garden.

Here’s what’s in the winter salad: giant red mustard greens, collard greens, kale, red veined sorrel, parsley, arugula, dandelion greens, and, salad burnet.

OYR is all about growing a lot of food on a little land using sustainable organic methods, while keeping costs and labor at a minimum. Emphasis is placed on improving soil quality with compost, mulch, and compost tea. No store-bought fertilizers, soil amendments, pesticides, compost activators, etc. are used.
