So, a few months ago, I bought a small Double Gold raspberry plant online, and it’s a primocane (I think, it’s not big and tall, didn’t fruit this year). It’s in a 30 gallon grow bag, and I’m curious as to whether a plant that hasn’t bared fruit yet will need to be pruned, and if it does, how.
I’ve seen people online suggest cutting all of the canes of a plant down in the fall for one big crop (which is what I want), but I’m also worried that cutting it down like that may not be helpful.
The plant looked like this when it arrived (Not my picture, found on google, but it looked almost exactly the same, but with just one cane, a more woody branch(?) attached towards the base, and a very small sprout that I assume is a very slowly growing cane (I know it’s not a weed, it has raspberry leaves).
To sum it up, should I prune an everbearing raspberry this young, this fall? If I should, should I cut back the whole plant and let it regrow from there? Should I do something else? If I shouldn’t prune it at all, what should I do this fall?
