October Cottage Garden Tour – Trees, Bulb Planting & Clearing Summer Plants

It’s time for a long overdue cottage garden tour. Now that we are in Autumn it’s time to tidy away the summer plants in the polytunnel, and to get those Spring bulbs in the ground. Here is a look at my bulb planting process, and a walk around the garden. Things are a bit messy and honest this time around. Thanks for watching!

  1. If you guys can rent or borrow goats in your area, I highly recommend! They’ll eat all the ivy and other any other brush. Pigs are the same but more destructive. I’m a first time viewer and love your garden ☘️

  2. I am feeling a bit overwhelmed as well as there is so much work to accomplish and clean up, then there are the bulbs to plant! The frustration is that I fractured and tore the ligament off my pinky on my right hand and have to be in a splint for 10 weeks. 😢. I realize I have to take things slow but yes, I’m feeling overwhelmed and frustrated. Trying to be positive.

  3. 0:49 And thousands of subterrainian bulbs, patiently waiting for springtime to come! 0:55 I also do not like autumn. The only thing good that can be said about it is that it is a fruitful time of year. 1:08 Yes, with my 50 foot wide, by 300 foot long vegetable garden as densely planted as possible and my cottage flower garden, summer garned activity is like afire hose opened full blast, a torrent of things to keep up with all demanding attention at the same sime, and I can hundreds of quarts of vegetables and fruit per year. Impossible to keep up with everything.
2:00 Yes, here in Ohio, February and March are the months that ice storms occur causing branches to come crashing down and electric to go off for a week at a time.
10:50 , yes, today 6 tulip bulbs arrived that I paid $80 US dollars for because they are near impossible to find to buy. One variety is named Insulinde, the other is named The Lizard. They are both Victorian era tulips. I want basically 4 classes of tulips, I want old Victorians and parrots and what I call "Easter Egg" tulips which is a blend of Purple Prince, Candy Prince and Yellow Prince and they have the Easter Egg colors and shape and they do bloom at Easter time.

  4. Love your videos! I suspect the crocus coming out is Orange Monarch, as the Saffron one typically emerge as purple.

  5. Before I became a gardener fall was my favorite season, now it's taken me years to find beauty in the "mess" of fall. I tell myself fallen leaves are confetti and this time is something to celebrate. ❤ Sending peace to you in your garden.

  6. And I like atumn. Each season is differant and great. Look, how interesing looks Your garden now:yellows, browns, greens are together so quiet and peaceful. Brilliant. Greetings.

  7. I felt a bit panicked when I saw the low overnight temperatures forecast for this weekend. I have lots of butternut squash that are not ripe enough to harvest. Other than that, I had been grateful for the warm, dry early October to get lots of tidying and bulb planting done on my plot.

  8. Im always surprised when people say they dont like autumn, as thats always been my own favourite season! Autumn is the coziest time of yeah! It brings cooler weather (yey, no more sweaty, humid, gross UK summer, lol), lit fireplaces and candles, cozy knitted hats and sweaters, lots of tea and hearty autumn foods, beautiful foliage colours, dark cozy evenings, and lots of free mulch once those leafs fall. 🙂

  9. It might be a good idea to cut the oak branches flush with the tree trunk, otherwise disease will enter and cause problems later on. Plus it makes the cuts more attractive. Love your garden

  10. Wow you garden is huge !! I sometimes feel overwhlemed by the work in the garden. I planted some of my first crocus safran, lys and snow drops. I am aldo a huge fan a solar lamps in the trees especially when it's already night time at 5 pm.

  11. Yes! Thank you!. I live in Massachusetts, where most people are ecstatic for autumn. I get overwhelmed and much prefer spring.

  12. We have ivy that is such a massive problem! I think such a big problem that I may need ot use stump killer on it (I have never used weed killer in 3 years of gardening). It is eating up our fence and creeping into the beds through 5-6 ivy's in my tiny garden :/

  13. The ducks are so cute. Everything is looking good, look forward to seeing all the bulbs come up.

  14. But… is that tree growing up through the roof of the shed? 🍁

Thank-you for this channel! 🍁 Autumn Blessings! 🍁

  15. Messy gardens are the best! Why don’t you get some bees? Your garden is perfect for them, and their dying out! 😢

  16. Glad I’m not the only one who has so much tidying to do in the garden this autumn 😅 loved hearing all your future plans! ❤
