Those are American Persimmon(Diospyros virginiana). They can be very bitter if eaten when unripe. Ripe fruits should be soft, almost mushy to the touch. I consume them at this stage and they are tasty! Most recommend to wait until after a frost to pick them for consumption as they can be much sweeter.
