Gary Pilarchik: Planting Indestructible Onion Bunches: Onion Sets (No) vs Onion Bunches (Yes) – TRG 2014

Onion sets are technically second year onions that are planted late and picked and sold to you as little onion bulbs. I have had issues with sets/bulbs growing seed heads instead of growing large onions. That is because onions are biennials and the onion believes it is in its second year. It wants to flower and not grow a mature onion. Onion bunches are first year onions you can buy or grow from seed. They are indestructible and it is the cheapest way to grow onions that will bring you large mature onions and no seed heads!
