  1. Laura, Aaron,
You don't want an actual "stock tank" heater for the pond–they're designed to heat the full amount of water in a tank & so have massive wattage. What ya'all need is a pond floating saucer-style heater. They are designed w/ enough wattage to keep a hole in the ice so that gas can exchange can occur, perhaps 50-200 watts. Big difference between the 2 heater designs/wattage. Additionally, most saucer heaters have the added benefit of an automatic on/off based on water temperature–on when the water drops to 45° Fahrenheit & below, off when above. My personal favorite is Farm Innovators Model PF-200 Pond Deliver (other companies make this style, too). This model is designed to be less likely to tip should it be hit w/ a heavy snow.
BTW, be patient–the tannins coming from the stump will eventually finish leeching out & your water will then be crystal clear. It just needs time…a fair amount of it.
Hope this helps! Happy pond keeping. 😊

  2. I want to ask you Why you guys don’t have a dog? I just picture myself with two dogs driving around the garden all the time.

  3. Narure is brutal, but Koy are expensive! Had seven for four years, they were like pets. One Blue Heron later they were gone :))

  4. 0:45 I look forward to fall just for the soups. Luckily, so does my family. ❤ do you like the reference to the meme though Aaron! 😂 it’s referred to as stoup. Soup stew combo.

  5. Organic fertilizers break down over time.. they are not immediately available to the plant, and it breaks down at different rates and will never burn any roots of any plant!

  6. Someone in a more rainy climate, and richer soil would need to use a proper base for the flagstone paths, and a filler in the negative space. The rocks will move around, by themselves, if introduced to a mud base. The hardpan in Eastern Oregon is more forgiving to the way Aaron and Laura did it.

  7. Lsura you have become a snob, you act like some plants are beneath you you wojld rather get rid of something and plant ugly boxwoods

  8. As a girl in grade school, I grew up always hating the stress of picking out an outfit so it annoys me that people even comment on your clothing choice! You look great! I come to this channel for gardening and I absolutely love it. Thank you for all the work you all put into sharing your garden with us!

  9. Geranium macrorhyzum would look nice in front of boxwood in the west side. Or Waldsteinia ternata

  10. Yes please to another felco pruner maintenance video. Just bought my first pair a couple of months ago. Want to take good care of them as I want to have them last forever!☺️

  11. Viewers don't be weird. Paul and Bethany don't need to chat with the Internet because Laura puts herself out there. They're at work doing an excellent job, let them be.

  12. I look forward to these recap videos. I love to hear the most interesting questions and then the answers that you and Aaron give us. I learn so much and appreciate your time and thoughtfulness.❤

  13. My koi are my water puppies, each have their own personalities. The first time a heron or other predator cleans out the your pond, I would be surprised if your not dining a different tune. Of course my koi are bottle fed, eat our your hand and enjoy having their bellies rubbed.

  14. I got my bulb order from Color Blends yesterday. Can’t wait for Laura to start her planting so I can plant along

  15. A great book on trees is. “THE TREE BOOK” by Michael Dirr and Keith Warren. 2019, Timber Press, Portland Oregon.

  16. We have been water garden/fountains people for over 40 years. That means we are old now 😉 We love tiered fountains! Our newest came from a designer in Cali.. Great patina on the thing. We have always built an outside ring, large enough that lilies won't be hindered by the overflow. Throw in goldfish for eco and you have a nice wall to sit on and watch them. Being retired electrical contractors we have wonderful yet subtle changing lighting for night time. Best of both worlds combo. AND, we like watching you every morning while on our screened porch listening to all our water noise! Morning routine! Thank you!

  17. Regarding the kneeling pad… at work we have service people come and noticed they used kneeling pads that are super thick and cushy. Asked where he got it…. Home depot! Not in the gardening section but in the tool area! Love mine.

  18. I hope those trees do great, but planting a tree TOO high is almost as bad as planting it too low. So, we'll see.

  19. Installing the pallet walkway in the north garden near the barn might be nice. You have a more woodland look there.

  20. Maybe a new pallet walkway could work around a barn on the new property
…. or if did a tool shed by the high tunnel there.

I'd like to buy another John Paul II rose …I bought one around 2020 and a few smaller roses to try under a grow light…no one made it out 😑. A blue agave loves the indoor light and is about two feet wide as well as a bromeliad, about two feet tall. Had to divide a cymbidium orchid, Peter Fire Torch.

Are you going to do a cooking video with apples? I saw an apple recipe with red hot candy "cinnamon flavor" …good for upcoming holidays.

Saved two apple tree species like to plant from US …popular Prairie Spy, Prairie Magic and 2 from Germany, "Pancake apple" Altlander Pfannkuchenapfel (Salt Spring Apple Co) and Red Berlepsch Apple (Trees of Antiquity online store). Nice to plan orchard around ancestors, kind of like Field of Dreams…build it and "they" will come.

  21. I’m with Aaron on the tree planting! As he said nurseries do it all the time, especially b&b trees. The entire rootball will be above the soil, heeled in with something like pine bark. Of course that isn’t a permanent situation. But planting 6” up and surrounding with soil/compost/conditioner and filling the surrounding area with wood chips is the way to go imo. It provides great drainage, reduces weeds and as the wood chips breakdown they enrich the soil and after a few years you can plant directly into them. Definitely team Aaron tree style!

  22. For Aaron’s SOUP … just ADD flour to THICKEN, dbl. the recipe of Veg/meat! And add DUMPLINGS/BISCUITS….

  23. Aaron I totally agree with planting high! 🌳🌳🌳 The trees tend to settle lower, and die a slow death when the trunk is buried in soil and mulch. The “landscapers” do it all the time! So sad to see newly planted trees die from improper planting and watering. I share your love for trees! 🌳🌳🌳

  24. 😂 Laura sounds like me when my husband decided to DIY a chicken coop and wouldn't show me his plans or talk to me about the layout or anything.. technically there is a Chicken Coop it's just that the chickens prefer my lawn furniture instead.. it's a work in progress

  25. Hope you all are enjoying the cooler weather… Samantha is geting so big.. stop growing so fast…. Bless you all

  26. I loved that pallet walkway, and the area where you had the first pond put in. It was a beautiful “room”

  27. For the Defoliation of roses, if you live in a humid climate and get black spot or rust on your rose leaves they will defoliate. I went through it for many years here in NJ as it’s Very humid. We now use Bioadvanced Rose and flower care, it’s a liquid concentrate that you mix and pour every 6 weeks. No more defoliation and my roses looked amazing this year.

  28. yes Aaron and Laura plant them high. My trees have sunken because the soil settle. We have similar weather here in northern Nevada high desert.

  29. I watched a tree class and they said plant them higher because even an inch or two of soil can be too heavy and kill them, so if you are bringing soil up, makes perfect sense to me about accounting for that.

  30. I agree with Aaron the pallet walkway needs to go. It’s was good to demonstrate how one can create a walkway on a budget. It no longer works with your style:

  31. You gave me an idea Pool Covers should have art work of a pond so when covered it looks like a pond instead of just a Blah colored cover so plain. When I installed a small pond in my backyard when I lived in Florida I had koi and all was fine until a friend went to a pet store and bought me a very large one for my birthday and that day an egret flew in and stole it right infant of me. I gave up after that and just ket small ones and bought a netting to cover it.

  32. My Favorite area of your whole yard has been the pallet walkways and the chicken coop. My heart breaks as it gets smaller and shorter😢
