When I traveled to Colorado, I was expecting to film epic mountain vistas, but a run-in with altitude sickness foiled all my plans and left me scouring the map for lower-elevation places to explore. Something I almost overlooked down in the corner of the map rang a bell…Garden of the Gods…and I had a hazy recollection it was some kind of rock formation. You know I can’t resist a good geological oddity, and it wasn’t terribly far away, so I went to check it out.

I know this episode is on the short side, but in what turned into an entirely unplanned, improvised trip, this location made the most sense as its own standalone chapter in the series, separate from Pike National Forest and separate from the next part of the journey you'll be seeing soon. I've squeezed in a few extra mid-week videos this month and will try to have one more for you at some point in the next few days as well. Thanks for understanding, and thanks for watching! ๐
Altitude problems, next time, see your doctor before you travel for a medication called Diamox
Gods artesiery awesome

Although not your normal video, that was unexpectedly delightful.
You are right about getting there for sunrise. The red rocks almost glow when the sun first hits them. Glad you enjoyed your visit.
There are usually some big horn sheep that bomb around there.
Better to visit Garden of the Gods after vacation season is over. Colorado has great expansive views from lower altitudes also. Have lived here 37 years now…
Beautiful โค
I have to admit I feel like at 6:10 you missed the perfect Steve Irwin impersonation…. ๐ I'm enjoying your series on Colorado adventures gone awry. Thanks for all you do.
I was fortunate enough to visit Garden Of The Gods way back in 1971 while living in Colorado Springs for awhile. Back then, it was mostly undeveloped and all the pathways to interesting areas were just basic dirt. Crowds were non-existent. The city was just starting to turn it into a tourist attraction. In my opinion, they should have left it alone, but politicians are always driven by the prospect of money.
Exploring is still exploring. No matter how big or small a find. As long as it's new to the explorer and interesting ๐ค
Thank you for sharing
I was there when I was around 17ish or so. The visitor center didn't look like that back then.
And while I'm not one to want to be around tourists myself if the park wasn't there, it would be some high end houses and would be in ruins. So this is the lesser of two evils
Garden of the Gods wasn't what I expected either on this channel. The name sounded vaguely familiar and seeing the video it occurred to me that I've actually been there ages ago with some friends. Must be the first time I've been to one of the places you go to.
Is it me or are all the cars driving backwards at 1:25 ??? I like your phrase,
"I'm here too, getting in someone else's way" I definitely need to remember that one cause for me, the crowds give me anxiety attacks. Beautiful area, looks like a good place to share with the kids, though its nice to see it from my living room. Thanks for sharing..
Kinda reminds me of Utah or AZ.
Gorgeous area!
Beautiful area, thanks for sharing.
Garden of the gods was cool. Christine said what makes it more impressive is that they are out by themselves, not up against a mountain range. We donโt like hoards of people either; but, like you said, when we are there we are one of the hoards. ๐คช
God surely did create a wonderful world. Very sad that people are destroying it.
That was some awesome scenery! So much so that I wish the video was longer๐.
Only Donald can make a city park look so good! What a beautiful place! โค
