Physical response vs. biological response – the light meter indicator moves as a physical response to the changes in light intensity. But watch the oxalis leaves: they open around the *time* of sunrise even though the light meter indicates that their particular location is still quite dark. While the sun moves past them, you can see the leaves deflect in response to the intense direct sun – just like how we would squint. Finally, the closing of the leaves occurs well after the sun has moved out of sight, as if they’re saying “okay NOW it’s time for bed!”
