Blackberries are a perennial favorite for many people and most of us are familiar with blackberries. But did you know that in eastern North American there are two species of wild blackberries called common blackberry (Rubus allegheniensis) and smooth blackberry (Rubus canadensis). These species of blackberries are likely found pretty close to home for many of us an can provide a heavy crop of blackberries which can be processed for later use over the winter months.

Yum. Our wild blackberries are nearly done where I am. Love them, but they sure do love to take over.
It was a good crop here this year
Dear Chris,
Thank you for this informative programme on blackberries. I like them preserved, not so keen on them as fresh fruit.
