In 2022 I planted potatoes 🥔 in a 5-gallon bucket 🪣, using only leaves. The 🐜 🐜🐜 ants found it, completely destroying my plants so that the only thing valuable left was the leaves which had barely decayed. I'll not try THAT again!

Yes I use potatoes to rebalance the soil. I had bindweed and planted potatoes to curb the spread.
