This BRAND NEW Fig Tree I Developed Is INSANELY Good!

In this video, I share a brand new fig variety I developed as part of my fig tree breeding project! Three years ago, I began a longterm project breeding figs to develop new high quality fig trees from seed. This new variety of fig tree is the second fig seedling of the lot to ripen its crop, and its fruit blew me away with how insanely good it is! You simply must see this to believe it!

This fig tree is a cross between UCR 271-1 Saleeb (father tree) and Del Sen Jaume Gran (mother tree). Del Sen Jaume Gran is one of my favorite figs, but it struggles in rain and is very late to ripen. The goal of this cross was to develop a new fig with the outstanding size and taste of Del Sen Jaume Gran, but as an earlier season fig with more rain resistance. This fig appears to be successful, because it has the same incredible flavor, but with a shorter “hang time” to ripening.

In this video, I share a full profile of the fig, a taste test and an update of my fig breeding experiment and the progress of the other fig tree seedlings.

  2. Amazing tree, and great explanation. I saw the process how you did all of that pollination work, fantastic work, great to see it was worth it, congratulations 👏
Maybe grafting branches would accelerate the process to see if the fruit is good?

  3. The expression on your face of pride and anxiousness as she was processing the taste of the fig to give you an honest rating was so wholesome. You should be proud of yourself for staying dedicated to this project for this long! Keep it up and maybe we could see you patent a fig variety in the future!

  4. And yes, it’s super exciting as a fan of yours and figs, in general, to see the game evolving. Limitless possibilities. Upmost respect. And I’ll be buying a cutting!

  5. I manged to cross Black Madeira x Michurinska-10 (Florea/Ali Pasha) – male. The result is something similar to Black Madeira slightly smaller (the flavour is similar) but it's very cold hardy and ripens much earlier. Btw where I live we have the wasp

  6. Sorry to bother you, i watch your informative shows. I have japanese beetle grubs in my fig pots. Should I be concerned or let it ride? Are they destructive? Thanks in advance for your input.

  7. My Grandpa had fig trees in his yard that were big enough to climb and I used to eat them until I was sick. His trees were Celest. You've taken figs to "a whole new level!" Great job!

  8. As good as my dsjg is growing in AZ I will be looking to buy a cutting from ypur breeding program asap.

  9. Hi just found your channel it's very good. I think you and I worked together in Charlotte some year's ago for a home builder.

  10. Can someone please help me, it’s very urgent. My fig plant right now is full of fruits, but I really do need to repot it, as right now all my plants had to be moved indoors whilst the outside of building are being drone washed. This is the best time for me to practically clear up my patio that’s overloaded with too many big pots, I hardly have space.
So can someone advise me, can it be done, whilst full of fruits, none of them are at any ripening stage (late season). I must clear up the patio, repot most of my plants in smaller 30litre pots instead of 50litre as it is now. TQ

  11. Good for you man, congrats! I hope that fig tree continues to impress you. It’s cool to see your work pay off. I love how excited you got. 😎
