You do have a rat issue there buddy! Hope you get it sorted.
Terry why not grown in a bed that has no wood "scaffolding" up the side of the beds, use the lampshades and remove the lower leaves within a few weeks of harvest next year ???
The bottles should work, just wonder what the added heat and lack of airflow will do? Hope it works, we all know what it's like losing a crop, especially so close to harvest !!

Socks? Do your feet smell that bad, then? 😂 When I was a lad, a local farmer asked me and my brother to bring our air rifles to his yard at dusk. He got us up on the top of his chicken sheds to shoot the rats. After a few sessions, I asked him if it was solving his problem. He said “Oh no! The f#@*ers breed faster than you nippers can shoot them!”
I suppose traps are not humane.

Mix bicarbonate of soda with peanut butter. Leave it for the rats to eat. Let’s just say they won’t be coming back. ( it can’t harm anything else that may happen to eat it ). 🐀🌽🐀

when the sweet corn is showing brown tassels try dusting a little chilli powder on the end of each cob

I like the bottle idea my corn is just starting to throw their silks and after our hurricane? Everything got wet so hopefully the tassels can drop enough pollen to give me a few nice kernels

Good idea re bottles,fairplay Terry. Muce and rars just keeping you on your toes. I put netting on my peas, to keep from pigeons, and the mice used the nets to climb up and ate every single pea pod.

Just wondering if you put round plastic rain guttering upside down all around the outside top edge of the wood, maybe stop them being able to climb up & over. Or even 2 levels of guttering (one on top of the other creating two half circles like an m shape rather than 2 uu shapes) right around the top outside edge of the bed making it difficult to climb up. Just a thought. If that fails I hear Shotguns work wonders. 😂
Try covering the sweetcorn cobs with socks. We do that to protect them from squirrels so I know it works.

Hi Terry, I hope your measures work, as you have come so far with your corn, i had a good laugh with the sock, we don’t have rats but we do have jackdaws that strip corn from the top down, large gangs of them and it doesn’t take them long!
Need ya some kitties to take care of those rats! Had to laugh at the sock. Stay safe over there my friend!

Terry l have been watching your videos for over 5 years now, l subscribed after watching Starting a new alltment [series 1] l have commented just a few times but always given your videos a thumbs up…till now .This one gets a large thumbs down. You are making light hearted comments about the damage on produce done by rats to both Corn and Carrots implying l hope in jest, about cutting off the damaged parts and still eating the parts that the rats havent nibbled. You are playing russian roulette if you seriously do that, Rats often pee on the things that they will chew, and Rat Pee can cause deadly disease to humans with Leptospirosis [Weils Disease] as well as Hantavirus Pullmonary Syndrome HPS. Although rarely fatal it will leave you with permanent damage to your lungs and will often give you a serious cough that never goes away. Please make it clear to the many many people that like me watch your videos that if you know rats have touched wear gloves and destroy it.
It looks more like squirrel damage rather than rats
My enemy is Squirrels and I use old socks and I store them away until needed for this purpose. Great video thanks Mike
Few ideas to keep the rats and mice from eating your corn, touch wood I’ve been ok for rats apart from compost bins. Hopefully one of your ideas will come up trumps and win.
