Nice Potato Harvest from just 2 Containers

Harvesting the last 2 container grown potato crops.
Just grown in relatively small 30 litre pots I managed to get 8.5 lbs even after they had got Potato Blight.

Hi, I’m Dan and I grow a huge variety of vegetables for eating and also some Giant and Exhibition Show varieties for Local and even National Competitions.
Throughout the year I will try to show how I go about growing my produce and hopefully give a few tips and tricks along the way.
Whether it be how I grow potatoes in containers, growing basic veg for the home to growing a 10 pound onion or even a 100 pound marrow I will chart all my progress.
Please have a look at my videos and subscribe to my Channel.
Thanks.

  1. Hi taken 2 pots of my king Edward potatoes got 7.6kg potatoes and getting the 4ft planter out tomorrow when I get home from Asda hopefully get some more out

  2. I really should harvest my 40L containers, based on the one of six I've done so far it might be a bit of a disappointment πŸ˜…

  3. Sorry about the blight but spuds are looking fantastic Dan πŸ‘πŸ‘. Have a super week, Ali 🌞πŸ₯΅πŸ« πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦

  4. Such a lovely harvest. I'm so disappointed this year.
We had a dry hot start to summer followed by a cooler wet middle.
The only potato doing well for me is tge Russian banana fingerling.
Ive been harvesting some of my sad pots that the slugs are totally destroying the tops.
The little purlle pearls only had one sad stalk of plant come up each(I've got 3 more pots still alive and moved into my greenhouse)
3 pots gor me 12 pingpong ball sized potatoes. And about 6 large marble sized potatoes. I know i griw mini potato but geez its disappointing.
The one pot of Russian banana gave me about 6lbs but they are bizarrely shaped but they taste good.
My french fingerlings are just soso 3 pots gave me 4lbs.
But my pots are 3 gallon sized for those.
I have some russet potato struggling and mire Russian banana and french fingerling to harvest but the mosquitoes were trying to eat me alive so i gave up for the evening
I do get more potatoes than i did before growing them in buckets compared to growing in soil but i marvel at how well they do in the UK
Maybe its worth shelling out $30 plus shipping for 5pounds of nicola or Charlotte seed potatoes for next year.

  5. Strange how the same blight devastates tomato foliage and fruit, devastates the foliage on potatoes but has little effect on the actual potatoes? πŸ€”

  6. The leaves of one of my pots have really wilted but are still a healthy green!! I don't know whether too harvest them or wait til they really die back??

  7. Don Amott was king of caravans, Dan Allotment is king of spud containers ! How often did you water yours ? I am struggling to get the watering right. Failed this year and consequently have had a pretty pathetic crop so far.

  8. Brilliant harvest! I followed your lead this year and so far the yield is much better than previous seasons so thank you very much πŸ™‚ You're a star! Is it OK to just chop off the haulms when they have blight and then harvest the potatoes when needed or do they have to be lifted straightaway? Thanks for the great video.

  9. It's been so good for potatoes this year … I sowed my Kestrels in the ground this year and almost every spud was over 1lb weight … 5-7 potatoes per plant … my biggest one was 1lb 8oz!

  10. Nice one Dan, had a good crop of Charlotte myself this year, around 6lb for two pots, happy with that, just Golden Wonder left now.

  11. Great harvest! Which variety was that? Sorry if I didn't hear but you said it.
