  1. I grew multi-colored carrots for the first time last year, from a cloth strip that was easy to plant, and they were absolutely massive by the time I harvested them in late summer, early fall. I think we planted them around April and harvest them around September.

I was entirely uneducated on carrot etiquette when I was growing them in our tiny apartment garden. They came out tasting more like a mild herb, such as parsley mixed with cauliflower. Some grew soft and fleshy after a few weeks. They weren't sweet at all, but not at all unpleasant in soups or stews.

I'll be sure to grow carrots in stages this year to avoid that, but I had no qualms with the carrots that were almost as big as my forearm (as long as they were in a stew shortly after harvest!)

  2. Just a tip for anyone trying to grow carrots in denser soils with heavier clays and such, if you plant seed radishes first they will churn up the first few inches of soil for the carrots to grow. The radishes get picked far before the carrots come into action.

  3. If you use the pest net to avoid flies, does the sun get through? Or water? I’m not sure if you leave them on the whole time? Are carrot flies a problem for the whole life of the crop, or just as a certain stage?

  4. Just discovered your channel and you are awesome!!! Going to binge watch and try my hand at container growing this year seeing as how I live in town. Thank you!!!!

  5. I'm sorry it's a little weird I don't understand it fully and you did not show how to make it all you showed is tips next time if you could please show how to make the character cuz they looked very good and I want to see how to make it not the tips

  6. I like raw carrots, sometimes with humus dip or salad dressing dips…😊

  7. I haven't grown carrots for a while but I may do some this year. I don't remember having any fly problems probably because I grow everything in containers. But for those people who do have flies couldn't they mask the smell of the foliage? Like with burning some incense, or a smokey smudge pot or opening a box of moth balls, or growing marigolds, there must be some smells that would repel those flies? Just thinking….

  8. First, I love all your videos and with your help I've learned so much about growing vegetables. The only problem is that my garden keeps getting bigger and bigger 😬 About slugs…. I deeply HATE them! Since we eat a lot eggs I started saving the eggshells. I wash first than bake them at 325F for 25/30 minutes. Let it cool down. Break into small pieces then sprinkle all over my carrots and salad greens when they are still small. The sharp edges of the eggshells cuts the slugs like a blade and they die! One would called it horrible I call it don't mess with my garden! 🀭Thank you and please don't ever stop making videos!!!

  9. And i have to plant mine in containers because i cant bend down in Garden. I used a BIG SQUARE TOTE WITH SELF WICKING. Thinking that mayve i should jyst dri holes in bottom. ? Can carrots be grown in vontainers?😊
