Is your garden more shady or sunny?
.
Gardens with shaded areas can be bright and beautiful, as this Chinese witch hazel shows us!
.
-Height/Spread: 12 to 15 feet tall and wide
-Zones: 3-9
-Witch Hazels to try for shaded gardens: H. xintermedia ‘Jelena’, H. xintermedia ‘Aphrodite’, H. xintermedia ‘Diane’, Chinese witch hazel (H. mollis).
-Design Tip: Grow as a stand-alone focal point, along a property border, or near your home’s entrance or sidewalk where the fragrance can be enjoyed up close. Smaller specimens can be grown in containers. Combine with other plants with winter interest such as hellebores, snowdrops, and heathers. Photo by Janet Loughrey
