3 Fruit Trees That Make Me EXCITED For FALL!

In this video, I share 3 fruit trees that make me excited for fall every year! Fall gardening season can be bittersweet because it means the growing season is coming to an end. Never fear! You can extend harvests by growing these late ripening, cold hardy fruit trees. These fruit tree varieties extend growing seasons into October, November or later!

Growing fruit trees is an easy way to grow more food and add beauty to your landscape. Fruit tree growing is often simpler than vegetable gardening, because fruit trees are much lower maintenance. Aside from annual pruning, occasional fertilizing and mulching, not much needs to be done. Adopt a perennial mindset and grow fruit trees in your backyard for generations of easy, low maintenance harvests!

  2. Figs & persimmons have got to be my most favorite tree fruits. But I love many different fruits.

  3. Apologies if you already answered this but about what time in the fall do you see fertilizers go on sale? Have been periodically checking at both Lowes & HD and have not seen a sale yet…

  4. It really does make a difference, harvesting apples straight from the tree.
I'm old enough to remember when I could sometimes get very fresh Red Delicious from the supermarket and they would often be crisp and juicy and flavorful. It gradually became harder and harder to find them that way. But when you can get them like that, it's a treat! Also, Red Delicious is much-maligned by apple snobs, but the better quality versions smell incredibly like roses and make a wonderful apple pie. You simply can't get them like that any longer, (i.e. really fresh) and if I could grow them properly in my zone I would.
And thank you for promoting persimmons. Those are another fruit that I grew up with in California's Valley, which it seems that few people outside of that area are aware of. A perfect Hachiya persimmon is like eating autumn custard. There's simply no other fruit like them.

  5. Wow I might have to grow some fig trees after seeing your past couple videos on it. What do you do with all those though, lord to eat! 😂

  6. Do you have an update on your fig breeding experiment? It's one of the most inspiring things I've seen on YouTube. Congratulations on your early success.

  7. Those figs look so good! Which is your favorite variety? Also, where did you get your fruit trees from?

  8. I have my Owari Satsuma and Asian Persimmon thanks to you that will help me thru dark days of fall. I loved what you said about figs not being anything like a fig newton bc that’s what I always thought before I had a fig tree. What I learned today was all of the different flavors of fig varieties. Thanks for the therapeutic gardening

  9. Delicious! Here in midetteranian slovenia the fig and persimmon trees are in everyone's gardens and absolutely delicious. I'm definitely going to grow at least 100 fig trees and 20 persimmontrees 😍

  10. Well, I have two fuyu persimmon trees and this past Sunday as I’m watching tv, my wife calls my name ( loudly) look at your trees both full of birds , they left me none no not one persimmon and then they went after my pepper plants

  11. How do I control the branches of the fig tree. We cut most of the branches them down when it was dormant but tree grew twice as vigorously! The figs are so far up, can’t even reach them.

  12. Great video . What method of growing would you call how you have your apple tree trained very interesting? Thanks for information . I have some fruit trees looking forward to the. Most dwarf fruit trees apples, peach, plum and pear. Really like that method you are using.

  13. I bought a Chicago fig and the leaves are drying up and falling off. I just purchased it and it only had about 6 leaves (it was very small) is there anything I can do? I’m in Texas, 100+ daily so I keep it in the shade and keep it moist and not in standing water.

  14. I'm in zone 6, and have Chicago Hardy, Desert King and Brown Turkey Fig. I've added Arkansas Black and Granny Smith apple this season! Totally agree with tasting figs of the tree. There's nothing like it.

  15. Your descriptions of how sexy the fruits taste reminds me of cooking shows that should be rated PG-13, at least 🤣

  16. I get SAD too. One thing I've found that helps me is finding outdoorsy hobbies that I can do year-round. I'm a cyclist and it helps lift my spirits up riding outside on the weekends even mid-winter when it's cold AF out and I'm wrapped up head to toe. Also persimmons are amazing. Just got my third and fourth persimmon trees in the mail a few days ago! I have two jiros and now a rosseyanka hybrid and weber American persimmon.
