Explore an Arts and Crafts garden with the National Trust at Hidcote

Take a tour of one of the most influential 20th-century gardens in the UK. Have you seen a lavender variety called Lavandula ‘Hidcote’ for sale in your local garden centre? Well, here’s the place it’s named after. The National Trust have been looking after Hidcote in Gloucestershire since 1948 and celebrate 75 years of caring for this Cotswolds garden in 2023.

Passionate plantsman Lawrence Johnston designed Hidcote as a series of interconnected garden ‘rooms’. Each space has a different look and feel, furnished with new and exotic varieties gathered on Johnston’s plant collecting adventures all around the globe.

Join Head Gardener Lottie Allen as she takes you through the formal Red Borders and Fuchsia Garden before leading you down the towering Beech Alley. There’s also a look at the Productive Garden, where gardeners trial new flowers and bedding plans before planting them out into the wider garden – much like Johnston once did.

We protect and care for places so people and nature can thrive. Everyone can get involved, everyone can make a difference. Nature, beauty, history. For everyone, for ever. You can donate to us at https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/donate
