Nice I also have Heavy Hitter. Supposedly you need to cover the flower to prevent cross pollination.
Thanks for the information.
God bless 🙏 you and yours.
Pray for rain 🌧 we sure do need a good rain here in west Texas 🙏
lol;;;last year I found a packet of okra seeds that I collected in 2009;;;just for fun I planted a row;;;was already hot;;think they hit the dirt the middle of June;;;as they were so old I just kinda planted the whole bunch in a 20 foot row;;;well it appeared that they all came up;;;lol;;;had to do considerable thinning;;;;but I wound up with a bountiful harvest;;;too much to eat up as fast as picking for tender pods;;so cut up a bunch and froze on a tray then bagged up for fried okra or okra and maters gumbo;;;;also made two batches of pickled okra;;;;it don't take many pods to get what you need tor the next year;;;anyway hope people follow your advise;;;save your seeds;;;so easy;;;enjoyed ;;;;thumbs up and keep em comin
Why do you put the seeds in the fridge? Do you ever freeze seeds? Thank you for sharing all of your experience with us! 😘
You guys kicking it
I'm guessing okra is what celery was and broccoli when everyone was talking back in 2018-2019 when world went crazy over broccoli and celery. Thank for the reminder on how to collect okra seeds. I learn something new. Thanks again.
Hello fromGermany, I just came across your channel today. Praying for you in that heat!
THANK YOU JILL FOR TEACHING US ALL. WE APPRECIATE YOU. LOVE YALL 🙏 ❤
Thank you for the teaching!!!
Just did this this morning. They are drying great in these 105 degree heat.
Can you tell a distinct difference in the taste of the two varieties Jill?
I just cut up a Hatch pepper for the seeds….tons of seeds in there. Thanks for throwing the saving seeds activity out here. So many of us are whammied by the heat and no help for it. So let's do something else productive instead of mourning the loss of bounty.
Jesus bless my friend.
Good morning Jill. I've been seed saving my Heavy Hitter okra. By doing this I can ensure I have viable good producing okra for my area. Now to keep the pesty chickens out of my seedlings. I've put up bird netting and they still find a way. 🤷♀️
Thanks for the information.
Remember y'all to Pray, Plan, Prep
Good morning. It is just too cool in Oregon for okra. We are having bumper crops in peaches and our heirloom apples. We had a heat dome installed so we are going over 100 tomorrow. You are starting an online store, right? Will you be selling seeds?
We have planted the Clemson spineless for years and saved seed. It might be time to rename ours!! Ha😂
Another great lesson from – North Texas Vegetable Gardening and Cooking.
I always save my okra seeds. Boy do I love okra! Praying for you all In Texas!
Good morning Jill! Thank you for sharing!
Did you notice any more production from one or other variety?
Praying for you guys to get rain. We finally got a little. Thank you for showing your seed saving.
Quick question – why do you put the seeds in the fridge before you store them?
Hey I'm an heirloom 😅. I've been attempting to save okra and all the other seeds mine didn't look like that gees I hope they grow. Thx for the info.
I have been trying to learn how to save seeds from some flowers and my garden.
Question for you, Jill – do you have to plant the two varieties a distance apart… or, cover the pods with paper bags, so that they don’t cross pollinate?
We love y’all lots and are praying for you continually, here in central Ga.!!! ❤️❤️❤️
I wish more people were doing as you do. We grow so much here and I always share it with friends and neighbors. This year I grew big rainbow tomatoes and Cherokee purple. Druzba and cherries. Nice harvest even in a drought.
Why do you put the seeds in the refrigerator? Do you keep them there, or just for a little while, and store them somewhere else?
My father gave me one pod of okra when I married and I have never bought seed myself. Been saving it over 50 years!
I had so much okra last year that I still have some frozen in the back of my freezer, but this year I just could hardly get any to come up.
Hey Jill we have a good amount of seeds as well. It's amazing how many you get. praying for rain.
South central Texas here…. the Clemson Okra work well for me in the Bulverde area.
We have a severe catapillar & vine borer problem here so Zuchini and corn are a waste of time.
I don't do pesticides but I tried BT… it was a bust.
Jill, why do you refrigerate the seeds before you package them for the next year?
