Raspberry plants are growing like crazy on my property in 6a, and I don’t mind, but I need to start taking the fruiting situation seriously. I am almost positive these are Fall bearing as I usually get berries in September and October right before the first frost.
I pruned this plant down to about 2 feet tall at the end of winter when no leaves had returned yet. I fertilized using a berry fertilizer, water vigorously, and now it’s over 6 feet tall, but with no sign of fruit. I am guessing this is the second year. It looks like all of the branches are green.
Should I prune this? Should I add more balanced fertilizer? Should I add a pure phosphorous addition? Should I just give up?
