Plot Tour August 2023 Don’t Crop Me Now

It’s August 2023 and the sixth tour of the 2023 season. August is a busy month for us, with a birthday and the allotment open day coming up. How are the plots doing? Has the endless rain caused any problems?

At Don’t Crop Me Now we have 500sq.m of space comprising 1 full plot and 2 halves and follow a ‘No Dig’ method in raised beds. We grow a wide range of fruit, veg and flowers which supply our kitchen all year round. We are not fully self-sufficient, but we shop very rarely.

  1. My apples are exactly the same but only on one side of the tree! I did wonder if it was sunburn from the very high temperatures early on.

  2. Yes my corguette were not as good this year but then the opposite here it was way too hot. I’m trying very hard to save more seed this year 🫢 I have them in containers all over the dining room table. Sorry about the blight 😢 but a lovely tour as always. Have a fantastic weekend and happy gardening 👩‍🌾, Ali 🌞🇨🇦

  3. Great video, loved looking around your allotments, like a walk in the park! Our vic plum last yr had to be supported so we still have jars of bottled and some frozen plums, this yr not many at all, what we have has been attacked, so left them for the insects. The apples have done really well again😊, the Laxtons Epicure apple has been harvested, really tasty eater. Been a confusing yr for the plants, here in Wakefield west Yorkshire we've had hot days but cold nights in June which has shocked my Cobra beans so not got as many to freeze. Coupled with this our health hasn't been good so for the last 2yrs we have struggled but on the positive side its been great to walk in the garden to watch the activity of the wild life and half of the neighbourhood's cats that come and relax in it. Well that's it😊 you did say comment!😊
