Container Gardening

Container Plant Design – Flower, Texture, Form, Contrast, and Scale

Super Fun Container Planting Project – In this video we mix up some different types of plants into containers that we got from Michael Carr Designs in Atlanta. We always try to do these projects on a budget with things that can be reused in the future.

  1. I appreciate how you start with small plants and soread them around. Hard to find 4 packs and 6 packs here, but I always ask so shop owners know we are looking for them.
Can't wait to see the patio; oh, and I must get a plectranthus!

  2. If Mr. Michael Carr wants to give containers away I sure would love a self watering container or two. 🌷💚🙃

  3. Love this video! It was so cool to see the two of you working together on the containers. Thanks for all the great ideas and information about the shrubs and annuals!

  4. Note to self: Delta Fusion CrapeMyrtle (black foliage, hot pink blooms).
Too many that i wanted!! Fantastic, beautiful compositions you & Stephanie made (sp?) here, just gorgeous.
Hope to see your patio in a month or two w these!

  5. Beautiful yucca and euphorbia mixed, will add a bit of drama from plant contrast, Thanks and love that 1, 2, step, Steph 😊

  6. Love Michael Carr pots. Got one of his huge turquoise pots (similar to the one you pointed out only much larger) with the acid/volcanic wash rim from my daughter who works for a nursery in Broken Arrow, OK.

  7. All the pots are beautiful and creative! For those who live in Oklahoma, Ollie's Bargain Outlet is a great place to buy pots!!

  8. I went to a local nursery last year and they carried Dr. Earth. Owner said that this was great potting mix. It was HORRIBLE. The drainage was so bad that I had mold growing on top of the potting mix. I will never but this product again

  9. Where did you find the Illumination vinca? I’ve been looking for it and it seems to be sold out everywhere!
    Also, love seeing Stephanie 😊

  10. Joining the chorus of people who can't wait to see the patio transformation! Beautiful container combos

  11. ❤🙏hello Mr Jim Putnam and Stephany, so nice to see you guys. Back in the garden , where's the natural nature are. Your garden is beautiful, wonderful ❤️ have fun gardening. Hello to all gardeners friends .be happy love ❤️

  12. Great looking pots. Loved your combinations! I love container planting and the creativity they allow! Thanks for sharing!

  13. I liked the plant/color/texture combinations you used in the beautiful Michael Carr containers. I especially liked the one with the dark foliage crape myrtle. I do have a question though. How is the polka dot plant, which needs some shade, going to work with the dusty miller and the crape myrtle, which likes shade?

  14. Great containers! It was great seeing you both in the video. I loved Steph's descriptions of the plants and why she chose them.

  15. LOVELY!! QUESTION: do you plan to run drip to your containers? If so which emitters would you use? May be a good idea for summer travel?

  16. I thought I clicked on the wrong YT channel when I saw Jim is planting a Crape Myrtle. Or perhaps this is Jim's twin brother hmm.. 🤔

  17. I throughly enjoyed this video! I loved all the plant combinations you and Steph chose. Also liked that she joined in in the video! Really inspired me to plant some containers. Loved this!

  18. I can’t do the vinca or even flirt with the invasives here even for pots. I am guilty of mint though!

  19. Beautiful and decorative pots!
They’ll look great on the new patio.
You guys make a great team!

  20. Zone envy! That grass is drop dead gorgeous, but sadly not for zone 5. Really enjoyed the Jim and Steph tag team!

  21. I loved seeing your wife in this video! I’ve watched your channel for a bit and I had never seen her talk yet. You guys seem like a great pair!

  22. Thanks for another lovely video, Jim. What amazing containers…….. I am so jealous!
I join everyone else in saying how nice it is to see more of Steph. You guys make a great team.

  23. Great video. What a neat garden pot shop you visited. What a great variety he has. I would love to have a water feature in our garden/patio area. At 19 min on this video just to your left is a beautiful water feature. Where might I find this?

  24. Great tip Steph about not letting other plants touch the sides of conifers……a very important and plant saving tip.

  25. The containers by themselves are so pretty and with the plant combinations will look absolutely amazing! But for some reason I’m drawn to the simplicity of the yucca with the euphorbia and the solitary lomandra even though I usually prefer colorful combinations. Looking forward to seeing all the containers as the plants grow and bloom through the summer. 👍😊👌

  26. Beautiful containers and plants! That lomandra is gorgeous and deserves its own container! Steph, have you ever tried to root the plectranthus that breaks off?

  27. When I plant shrubs, I always use the shrub’s container and another one or a 5 gallon bucket to hold the dirt we temporarily pull out. Then pour the soil back into the hole or container. Before I put the soil back, I’ll mix compost or mulch to the container to enrich the soil before pouring it back.

  28. Loved this vid! I appreciate details of plants, but please consider including the diameter (and depth, as applicable) of containers you use as you add plants to them. Seems I never know what size to look for, esp for a tree or a shrub. . Thank you.

  29. Where did you find a platinum Beauty lomandra?! I will drive wherever I need to but I have looked in my area for over a year

  30. Thanks for trying to “reuse” and be “economical.” Gardening is, surprisingly, expensive. Thanks! 🌸
