  1. It's work but you will not only have potatoes in the fall, plus the soil will be well on its way to being fluffy and fertile as it breaks down. In the spring, it will be good to plant whatever you are going to put there.

  2. Oh wow…..I’m so disappointed this year regarding my potatoes. I had two 20 pound grow bags and got nothing but three nice size reds and the rest tiny small balls! It was terrible! So, I made beef stew and dropped all the tiny potatoes in their. So bummed! Last year I grew in 5 gallon buckets and got basket full of potatoes

  3. Their is no “easy” way to garden. If anyone wants that, than don’t do it. It takes daily care. So…in my old age I do bucket gardening and two raised beds that come up to my waist. I don’t bend over. But all the buckets….of course, ya gotta bend over! But at least I’m not on my knees or sitting down. I’ve even lifted those buckets to harvest if I have too. It works for me that way.

  4. Kubota you need to donate a tractor to this hardworking, dedicated, inspiring woman!! It would serve your company well!!

  5. Hope this works great for you! I was concerned for all the bone dust flying & then all the hay dust flying as you worked. Have you considered a mask to keep from breathing in the dust? I’m not a mask advocate (since it was an exercise in in futility to make you “feel” like you were being pro-active against Covid), but dust can be bad to breathe & is large enough to be stopped by a mask.
Will be looking forward to your results. Yes, all gardening takes work. You are amazing in your determination…an inspiration! I’m in MA & “iffy” to have time to plant potatoes. I’m harvesting my special Prairie Farm mult colored potatoes. Picking lots of beans & planting cowpeas today. “Luck of the draw”… all butternut flowers are still Male…still hopeful. IHave enjoyed the New potatoes in purple, rosey & yellow! Take care! JClaire

  6. Awesome job, Kaye! I love the title of the video too! I had to delay going outside to cut grass to see this lol! Love videos that show the work that has to be put into gardening to be successful! GROW TATERS GROW!

  7. I thought the comment to say Ruth Stout didn't bend over was kind of comical. So how did she harvest her potatoes, did they jump into her basket for harvesting? Maybe she had someone else harvest them for her? I have seen the method but someone had to bend over unless they were in raised beds 3 feet tall or something.

  8. I agree that you'll have great soil in the spring! The wood chips were an unexpected twist! How thick and seasoned are they?

I think you would love and benefit from a permaculture design course. I took Matt Powers' class online during the pandemic and learned so so much about working with nature, minimizing your own efforts while loving the land and the community around you. (I'm not getting anything from Matt! I loved the course.)

I've used hay INSTEAD of wood chips because the chips were too heavy for me. It turns out that hay allows me to keep adapting the space every year, which is great for a newbie!

In any case, keep Ruth Stout'ing it!

  9. My first year of Ruth Stout method was a great success! I didn't just drop them in the soil though I lovingly placed each one! Great video, thank you!❤✌

  10. Spot, definitely got it blessed for you😉 The new terrace looks great. I need to get my fall potatoes, planted as well. Great video!!

  11. Years and years ago I had a Ruth Stout book. Wonder if it's still her somewhere. Looking forward seeing how this turns out for you.

  12. dear me..I do have concern about you…your cough..and all that bending..:( The way you walk now is very much bent over. 🙁 Also have you heard of "Farmer's lung" caused by breathing in dust from hay? Please be careful, maybe wear a mask when handling the hay and wear a back brace while lifting so much?
You Do have my respect tho, tacking all this by yourself..God Bless and good luck!

  13. I'm about 140 miles West of you and it's started pouring rain here about 10:00. How long it will last, who knows, but I hope you will be getting some for your potatoes. Loved your video!

  14. Cat inspected, cat approved! Whether our backs like it or not, I think bending over would be good for body core strengthening. For future reference, bicycle riding is excellent for back pain relief. 😄👍

  15. Looks like you are having so much fun with your four wheeler to assist with gardening on your big plot. Better than city gardening. Thanks for showing us you can still garden and get it done by yourself. Enjoy some ice tea on the porch.
