I need to learn the techniques for Norfolk pine care from my hosts here in Vancouver…Light is the first thing I analyze but trying to think about the window directions isn’t detailed enough: homes are never exactly on the cardinal directions (N, S, E, W) and the sun’s position changes throughout the year. Also, there’s no way to understand the effect of a skylight (windows on the ceiling).

Think of indoor lighting this way: 1) how much of the sky is this plant seeing (the more the better), and 2) how many hours does the sun shine directly on this plant (the tolerance or preference varies per plant).

Now you can understand skylights and why they are the best possible light for indoor plants. Now you can account for window size and outdoor obstructions. Now we have the dimensions that change to produce the different light categories (more on that another time)
