The Perfect Time to Harvest a Tomato

Ever wonder when is the best time to harvest your tomatoes? Rather than waiting until they’re fully ripe on the vine, consider harvesting them at first blush or what I call the breaker stage. In this video I show you the ideal time to pick your tomatoes so that you avoid the risk of the fruit splitting, which could happen during heavy rain or thunder showers. Additionally, you’ll decrease the chance of unwelcome visitors like birds, squirrels, raccoons, or tomato fruit worms taking a bite out of your precious tomatoes.

  1. There is a cost to doing this; vegetables begin to lose their nutrients after being picked, especially those not refrigerated, like tomatoes.
