Quick and Easy Lavender Bookmark Ideas using Meeden watercolor and Tombow pen

Join me in this delightful watercolor tutorial where I’ll guide you through three quick and charming line and wash bookmark ideas inspired by lavender. In the first bookmark, we’ll create a lovely pot of lavender accompanied by graceful butterflies, adding a touch of whimsy to your artwork. For the second bookmark, we’ll transport ourselves to an enchanting Italian landscape, featuring majestic lavender fields and a picturesque chapel nestled in the distance. Finally, we’ll explore the beauty of a lavender bouquet, complete with buzzing bees, perfect for creating heartfelt gifts for your loved ones. I’m using Meeden paints and paper, a Tombow brush pen, and Washi tape to divide my page into strips – but any supplies you already have will be perfect for this quick line and wash project.

  1. For your ears Diane, get some mullein, also called verbascum. I use it in homeopathic form and take by mouth. I have found one or 2 doses has cleared up an chronic ear problem I had for 10 years. 🌿 can also take as a tincture.

  2. I am so happy I found your channel. You make watercolor painting so much less scary and daunting. You are so very inspiring and I love your style of art and teaching. Thank you so much!

  3. I love these! Thank you for hanging in there in your hot studio to post the tutorial. Can’t understand why fixing AC is against the law? Hope it cools off for you!

  4. Can you not get a tower fan that will help? I often spritz myself with water periodically while sitting in front of a fan, but air conditioning is always better. Hope you get it fixed soon. I’ll be glad when Fall comes (here in US) !

  5. Hello Diane, well, I did it…. my first set of watercolor paintings… not exactly what I was trying to achieve, but not bad either…. the key for me is to paint in daylight, so that I can differentiate the colors… Even in watercolors, blending is not that easy…. have to work at it, the way I do in acrylics and in chalkpaint (in furniture)… it was fun… thank you for the inspiration. Hope your dog is sleeping better and you get a bit more sleep.
    Thank you.

  6. I'm still working with the Meeden paints. I realized that getting the paint in color order was too complicated for me, so I left them as they came in the box. My palate only has 18 well so I randomly pulled out Gamboge, Vermillion, Cerulean, phthalo Gr, and Raw Umber. I did a color comparison by putting one color Square in the center of another color Square. I did a test run following along to Niaz Hannan's new video 'Abstract Sunset Scene'. Color mixing is next on my list!

  7. These are so lovely! I wish I could work as quickly as you do. If you have a fan, you can cool the air by placing a dishpan (or something like a dishpan) in front of the fan with a block of ice in the pan. The fan blows air past the ice, cooling the air. THAT is how my grandmother cooled down the farmhouse when I was a little girl. It's not as efficient as A/C, but it will help.

  8. If it wasn't past midnight I would paint these now! I'm looking forward to starting my day tomorrow with this project. I hope they turn out well. As always, thank you, Diane for the tutorial. I hope you get some relief from the heat. I'm in Phoenix where the temperature today was 107F. Luckily our air conditioning is in good shape! Susan

  9. What do you mean they won't fix the airconditioning, because it's against the law??? That's insane!

I might add modern reverse cycle heaters / aircon are so energy efficient and cheap to run.
