  1. For the powdery mildew try a Tab of hydrogen peroxide and 2 Tab of baking soda to a gallon of water. Spray the plant every few days.

  2. Them raccoons know what’s good! 😕 hopefully you get a few ears to grind up. It only takes two or three for a corn bread. 🤞Happy to see tiger came home.💚

  3. Kaye – love all that you are doing, your gardens are beautiful! To avoid weeding, have you tried cardboard and wood chips? Just slap it down and cover it, save your energy for preserving harvests etc? 🙂 PS so glad Tiger is well!

  4. Thank God Tiger is ok🙏🏻. Your property looks amazing this year. I love how many melons and squash you have! Your gardens are really doing well this year. Pest pressure can be so discouraging, hang in there!

  5. also, I am sure a college program would have an intern that could help you out during the summer growing season. put them up in a trailer and give them their own garden research space plus help you out and provide feedback on how to deal with the gardening problems.

  6. Cushaw squash is not just nutritious but medicinal as well. The flesh is used in Yucatán folk medicine to treat burns, sores, and eczema.

  7. Catch the coons in a live cage! They like cat food. Be sure and wire down a tuna can at the far end of the cage, because they will just reach and pull the can out and will not be caught in the cage. Then your choice is to travel and drop them off in a public woods or put them down. They will make lots of babies and continue to populate and destroy your garden. They are very destructive to your garden and to your buildings. I have stories about that! Just FYI.
Your gardens are looking great! So true, you get what you get. We just have to be grateful for what we do get! 😊💖

  8. Maybe recorded dog barks that could play on a motion triggered system but I do not know how to make that idea work. I say that because you do have the kitties inside at night so they do not trigger the lights (squirrels, raccoons, rats, ground hogs, skunks???). Glad you are developing more local friendships which is very nice. Be very encouraged about your yards and landscaping and veggies/fruits.

  9. All gardening is experimenting. It is best to make mistakes now when people can buy some backup food. And all gardeners have experienced a bad harvest. We all just can do the best we can do. Much love headed your way from Oklahoma.

  10. OMG, I se to do the same thing about raccoons who will eat fruit , grapes and apples, pears I found. Now I trap them and bye bye.

  11. That cat is sure standing guard watching the vegetable garden😂😂. Have you tried Repel’s All? It works very well on Raccoons. It smells of coyote urine and they are afraid there is a predator. I buy the concentrate ( cheaper) and use a Zep spray bottle.

  12. Kaye I use my HAIR from my hairbrush to help control wildlife nibblers. I save it all year to place around the areas I don't want uninvited guest, it is very helpful. In fall/spring the critters use it for home building materials especially birds. Human Hair tricks the wildlife and is a reminder to them hey, a human is around here, most wildlife leaves the area when they feel danger may be lurking. NEXT OPTION TO CONTROL RACCOONS IN YOUR GARDEN-DEEP SOUTH DANNY-BANG BANG.

  13. Hello Kaye:
First off, happy to hear that Tiger came back and is okay. They're every bit as much a family member as any other, and it must've been a huge relief and a load off your shoulders when she reappeared again.
My Lord, sure is a constant battle to stay ahead of the critters. Seems like you've attempted just about everything that could reasonably be done, yet they' keep coming back to undo your efforts and hard work. Short of locking everything down like Fort Knox, it's hard to figure out what's next to try. The corn you did salvage looks great and It's easy to see the difference from the commercially grown varieties. Yours is a brilliant yellow and no doubt, substantially more nutritious as it's grown on soil that's not nutrient depleted.
Always enjoy your garden tours. Thanks. All the best.

  14. I enjoyed the update Kay. You have come a long way in two short years.
Does anyone know how to rid Johnson grass, sometimes called Jap grass? I have used multiple layers of cardboard with deep wood chips. It comes up through both like it is threading a needle.

  15. Did you blanch the corn before freezing? The enzymes will continue to mature the corn otherwise, adverse reactions to taste, tenderness and flavor. A short dunk in boiling water, but its up to you.

  16. Im so happy your fur baby is good , gardens are a chore and a constant work in progress and a learning project always, but all in all your gardens are beautiful, thank Kay for the update ,love is the key, always 💞

  17. Kaye, do not listen to the site you heard about Moth Mullein. All herbal "weeds" are considered "invasive." There are many medicinal uses for moth mullein. Indians used to smoke it for lung congestion and there are many uses for the whole plant. Please do more research. All I did was ask Mr. Google pants….medicinal uses for moth mullein. Queen Anns lace has a black dot in the center of the white flowers. I don't trust the smart phone directory on plants and "invasiveness." Also do not make your job harder and try and "help" your corn. It straightens itself. The cushaw squash…is that the gord you use to let dry and make bird houses? Your garden(s) look beautiful. If you REALLY want to rid yourself of raccoons in certain area's: Get hardware cloth. 4-5 " above the hardware cloth put an electrified wire. Coons can't get through the hardware cloth and if they climb it they get shocked attempting to go over it.

  18. I think I told you we grow huge cushaw squash at Shiloh where I volunteer. I got cherries on sale at Kroger for 99 cents a pound today and am knee deep in cherries. I have fo e 17 half pints and 4 pints so far today. I still have 2 bags to go!! I'll be glad when they are all canned. I did them with pits in. I'll remove when I use..or eat. That puts me over 400 jars canned so far this year! Loved this video as always. Take care. This heat is oppressive and I stay in most of the time unless I have to go out. I took trash out yesterday and walked back in with a terrible headache. That's Ludacris!!! God bless. Have you made watermelon jelly? It's very good.

  19. So sorry about the racoons. I read that sprinkling blood meal around the corn stalks will help, but I don't know if it works. Tractor Supply and Lowes has repellent, but I don't know if that works either. So glad Patch is okay!

  20. Kaye, while you were talking about your problem with the corn, and idea came to me, hopping will be a good one because I never planted any corn but I think will be wonderful. Here it is: Try collecting all the big soda bottles that you can, maybe from friends or the recycle collecting place, wash them very good with vinegar, rinse, dry them and make few holes for air circulation. Then, cut from the bottom up to have a long slip. Then, cover the stalks with those "altered soda bottles" and invite the raccoons to the party Lol. Oh! I think it's better if the bottles are clear, or maybe the green ones also work. This idea came to me at the same moment you were showing the disaster they did to your beautiful corn. I remember a saying that goes like this: "The necessity is the mother of invention". You can spend part of you winter time doing this for next year crop. Good lock and keep the good work girl.
