Abelmoschus esculentus, also known as Okra, Gumbo, lady’s finger, and Bhindi, is a popular annual vegetable plant belonging to the mallow family.
It produces nutritious elongated edible seed pods up to 7 inches long, containing white seeds that fill a pentagon-shaped chambered structure.
Its sticky mucilage is a good source of dietary fiber, vitamins and minerals.
They have elongated lobed leaves and produce vibrant yellow flowers with a distinctive cup-shaped structure.
It prefers full sunlight and thrives best in rich, well-draining soil with a neutral pH.
Due to its attractive blossoms, Okra occasionally is used as a landscaping plant.
Varieties include Annie Oakley, Burgundy, Clemson Spineless, Emerald and White Velvet.
