Hi Amanda, a little extra but important tip, definitely clean your pruners in between cutting your different roses!! In fact, in between cutting anything, but personally Iโm not that particular with that, but I am with my roses since they are so prone to different types of diseases
Thanks for a great general guide to rose care ๐
I am new to your channel and loving your videos, I have been gardening for over 15 years but always learn something new, you have a beautiful garden๐ท๐ท๐ท
Thank you always for sharing your experience with all your plants. Love the Iron bed trellis. If itโs pretty use the piece anywhere. I certainly do. โบ๏ธ
On the topic of powdery mildew, once the plant has it, is there no way to get rid of it short of taking off all the leaves?
I have 3 peonies that, even after spraying with a product for powdery mildew, just don't seem to ward it off. If the plants can't photosynthesize, is it OK to cut the whole plant back, even if it's only July? I know last year I couldn't stand it, and I cut them back, I think in late August, but it was concerning. They did come back this year and bloom but it's happening again. I tried to stay on top of it but I was unseccessful. I think I'm going to take the middle plant out and move it so the other 2 have more air flow but until then, any suggestions?
I'm a sucker for the tall Phlox, and of course, they too have powdery mildew. I did move them recently but their bottoms are bare๐ฎ๐!! I'm waiting to see how they bloom.
Thanks for the rose lesson. I have one climber and one standard knock out rose and the climber info was very helpful.
This was so helpful! It gives me confidence also. I have never wanted to deal with roses. Maybe now I can. Thank you.
This info was very helpful! I gained a lot of new tips. Thank you
Again, great vedio!!!
Thanks for the video it was very informative and I appreciated the close ups of where you pruned exactly on the roses. Very helpful ๐
Wonderful video! AGAIN! We used to live in wine country and the landscapers, of the wineries, would literally use a hedge saw and would just cut the living life of their roses, very painful to watch but this made their paths manageable….love roses!
I have always heard that you should never do a hard prune like you are doing in the summer months. It weakens the plant and leaves it open for disease. Iโm in zone 10a and we only dead head and remove diseased growth in the summer, never a hard prune. I have about thirty roses. I hope you donโt lose your roses. That would be sad. Iโve been a rose gardener for about thirty five years.
Great video ๐
Thank you!
Where did you purchase your obelisk (is that the proper name)?
Good idea to sterilize the pruners after cutting a disease branches
I myself do not get powdery mildew but I've seen another u-tuber who uses a mixture of milk and water then sprays her roses. Towards the end of summer I sometimes get black spot. I just remove the leaves. I do not use any chemicals in my garden other than fertilizer for roses. You should clean your pruners with alcohol or bleach between each rose. Bonny zone 5b
Thanks for all the tips and information about roses, very helpful. Good luck with all your roses!
I switched to the All In One Rose care last year. Really happy with the results-my 7 rose plants are doing great! Trying climbing roses this year & training is new for me. Thanks for sharing such great info. Zone 8A
Thanks for the nudge to do this for my roses ๐น! I had the Bayer stuff sitting out front to do for over a week so I did it all to my front yard roses. Now I am headed out to do my backyard ones. I would like you to address how to get more blooms on climbing roses over arbors. I have heard to loop them around like a hairpin. Right now mine are just growing straight up. I have one on an obelisk going straight up and they had blooms at the very top only Lol! Thanks again for the push, just what I needed. Love the bed frame arbor and the roses look great! ( how many are planted on that frame)
Another timely video. Iโm growing 2 Peggy Martin roses I started from cuttings from a friend. Great tips on getting them started on trellises. The branches are running in every direction like a herd of cats. ๐คฃ Now I know I need to trim off the ones growing forward. Maybe I can get those cuttings rooted so I can share. Propagating is not easy but it is rewarding when you get lucky and get them to root. Thanks for all the info and the Rose Care. Will definitely be looking for that!
It may help to choose varieties that thrive in your climate growing zone. I'm in 9b and deal with my share. There are cold and shade roses to choose from.
Hi, first time I found your channel and I want to know if that Bayer Rose stuff is chemical based? How does it stop all those things if you are watering it into the ground? I am new at Roses and just trying to learn as much as I can and I am unable to use any chemical products in my garden as I have 2 dogs and a cat and I do not want to make them or myself sick.
Don't they have thorns? You handle those branches like they are thornless.
Good morning. A quart is 4 cups of water. Love this video on rose care. I have learned a lot and now will be able to look to see what my roses are up to. Thank you and have a wonderful day.
