  1. You are doing fine. Trial and Error. My grandmother told me not every garden will turn out like you want. It is an every changing thing. You will find things that work and those that don't. Never freak out when things die out. Just try something different. Always do your research and go from there. I am 60, been in my home since 2009. It is changing every year. Some years things work great and others it changes. I am finally getting to a point where it makes since. A lot more containers, smaller beds, more plants that can handle the heat. This world changes so much and so has the gardens we plant. Nothing last forever and so change needs to happen. You will get there and it will be great. Get ready to change that garden as the years progress with the world.

  2. Water doesn’t go through plastic plus the heat helps kill the plants. Need to take plastic up and only use landscaping fabric so the rain can get to the roots of the plants. You do not want to lose plants as that was a big investment in money on the landscaping. You home is looking so very beautiful…

  3. Did you think about buying boxwoods to plant along the fence instead of flowers? Because the box woods will come back yearly flowers you have to replace every summer. I can't wait to see the finished project I have been enjoying all your make over as good luck

  4. Kayla, you, Marcus and the family have done a good job on your yard! You have inspired me to do something in our yard. I like how you mixed it up with the plants. Looking forward to see what other projects you have going on.🥰

  5. Everything looks great. I’m curious what’s behind the trees in your back yard, in the back back, behind the chicken coop? Is it the woods/forest area? Or does it blend into other houses? 😅 it’s so spacious

  6. Hi Kayla
There’s a ground cover called ajuga ( boggle weeds) look it up really nice. Each plant spreads 6’ so you can plant them 4 feet apart and you can enjoy the flowers that spring up from them. I like the mahogany one.

  7. You can get a ground cover plant that grows in the shade. There are many types to choose from.

  8. This is beautiful as the white hydrangeas grow ginormous over the years you may have to move the roses and azaleas.. I have those white Hydrangeas and they grew 1 whole fence length and are peaking over my 6 foot fence .. I love that you are creating a beautiful yard and garden like this!! Remember get lots of clearance plants!! You have a lot of space!!❤

  9. I would make a nice big compost area where you through the sticks and stuff now

  10. Like you I always have something dirty to haul in my car. That is whyvai keep 2 large dropclothes in my car for covering or wrapping things in. My husband was always asking why I needed to have my car washed so often 😊. I love your plant selection and yard.

  11. Added advice on watering: do NOT water any of your plants when it's super hot out. The cold water will boil and then kill your plants, do it earlier in the day or later at night when it's cooled down.

  12. Very nice! I burn in the fall sometimes, but I don’t like it. Last fall I bagged and took to the recycle center on Merk Rd. I use to put my leaves and sticks on my property too, but you don’t want animals making it their home. I love pine straw but I’ve found a few baby snakes hidden in it, so I don’t use it anymore.
