If you missed it, last week Kelsey threw a high tea garden party in her backyard, all based off of the fact that the wisteria was blooming. That being said, she needed to give her backyard a lil refresh in order to have people over…

  1. This is hard to watch. Please, everyone… Research native and invasive plants in your area. Plant natives. Destroy invasives. Some common invasives people continue to plant: Asian wisteria (Chinese and Japanese), English ivy, nandina, burning bush, privet, Bradford (callory) pear, liriope… I could go on. Invasive does not simply mean aggressive. Please, research. We have so many lovely native alternatives. We have our own native wisteria, our own native Virginia creeper, our own native grasses. It should not take government regulation to step in to put a stop to the sale of invasive species. However, regulations are being put into place to find the homeowners for having invasive species. Look into the fines that can be incured for running bamboo. It's coming. Get ahead of the curve. Natives support wildlife. Natives save water. Natives actually like our soil. Natives are beautiful. We can do better. LET'S DO BETTER!!!!!

  2. I have a plug-in hybrid Ford C-Max. It's so handy, but not a great car for power. Same on the discontinued and retaining value, but beware that plug in hybrids tend to have less interior storage space than the regular hybrids because they had to put the battery somewhere. We call ours Puddle because he's a light blue green that attracted like a dozen dragonflies the first week. (We normally don't see nearly that many.)

  3. Kelsey I have the exact car you’re describing. I have the Hyundai Tucson Plug In Hybrid. It’s a compact SUV, seats fold flat and very luxurious inside. We bought it a year ago and only fill up gas when we go on road trips, otherwise we stay within the fully EV mode in our city. Highly recommend!

  4. Get a Toyota Prius Prime – plug in hybrid. Our 2019 gets 2.6 litres /100 km overall. It’s a hatchback. It’s our 3rd Prius, and we love it – very reliable.

  5. Unfortunately the slaves in Africa who mine for the battery for electric vehicles would rather you not do that so they can stop. If only influencers would research things before they comment. Otherwise love the design videos.

  6. try a hyundai kona! I think they have an electric or hybrid model now, but I have a 2021 n i love her, she's a great size (big enough to like, camp and move furniture but small enough to parallel park in a city) and reliable! Not the most powerful but she gets the job done

  7. Honda Element owner here . I wish they would bring them back and update the interior 😢 I bought my element used and can sell it for double what I bought it for

  8. I have a 2021 RAV4 Hybrid XLE and absolutely love it. I came from a smaller hatchback car as well and the transition was really easy. If it’s in your budget, I’d look into the RAV4 prime(plug in hybrid).

  9. An asparagus fern is not actually a fern, it’s in the asparagus family (like the edible green and white asparagus) it’s just called a fern because of it’s fern like and feathery leaves. It should actually grow well in direct or indirect bright light. It can also store water very well, so it does well if you forget to water it sometimes, but thats also why it doesn’t tolerate wet roots constantly and doesn‘t need high humidizy to thrive. Hope this helps 🌞🌱

  10. Did you know you can recycle polystyrene in most big cities. In New Zealand We have a company called expol that takes it. They do under floor insulation. I'm sure you would have companies like that in Canada.
Also maybe try a moss ground covering on the centre of the driveway

  11. Watch hybrid vehicles as since they have 2 motors (gas and electric) maintenance can be steep / mechanics will not want to work on them. I would suggest looking at either gas or electric. Hyundai Kona EV or Kia Niro both EV's. I wish they sold true EV hatches, but do not in North America. Currently have a VW Golf and love it.. but wish it was electric.

  12. I’m not sure about the car market of Canada, but the only similar style hybrid to a Fit is the Chevy Bolt and Nissan Leaf. However, neither have the “Magic Seats” that Honda does (that’s their name). I think the Leaf only does a 60/40 split, and the Bolt might be the same. Unfortunately there’s not many compact cars on the market (that I can think of off the top of my head) that are going to offer similar seat folding like the Fit or HR-V. The UK came out with the Honda Jazz, which is essentially a rebranded Fit and Hybrid, I’d honestly swing for that if Canada is more lenient on their imported vehicles than the states are.

(Editing to add that the Bolt and Leaf are both electric, my bad, they’re just the only ones of that more compact size I could think of off the top of my head.)

  13. Kelsey! I Switched over to the Ford Fusion Hybrid a few years back and I LOVE it ! The highest trim level (platinum) has a luxury feel, and it has been a SUPER reliable car. I have the non-plug in version (it recharges when you brake) and still get around 40-43 mpg. I have also heard good things about the plug in Ford Fusion (the Energi). I’ve had the car for almost 4 years now and all I’ve ever had to get done are the usual oil changes and new tires. Not sure if you’re a honda girlie and want to stick with that brand, but I am pleasantly surprised with Ford. For reference, I had a Honda accord, and then a Honda fit for years, so I know the honda cars well.

  14. I love your channel – your garden and home are beautiful. It's wonderful thinking back to how you have both moved homes afew times and made each one special.
With the plants in your yard, how confident are you as to what aspect your yard faces and how much sun each plant is getting? You need to make sure a plant that actually wants semi shade isn't getting burnt by sitting in the sun. You also need to be wary with exposure to cold winds etc. You'd be surprised where you might find colder pockets even on a sunnier day.
You can find that out by spending a sunny day in the garden and watching how the sun moves through the space throughout the day. For the winds, simply observe on a windy day.
I would also not recommend pots unless they are very large and you don't mind continuing to check them every few days to make sure they don't need more water or they've been overwatered etc. They also need feeding with liquid sea weed for instance after awhile, as they will simply exhaust all the goodness in the soil after awhile. You might get better results for at least some of the larger plants if you lift some slabs in your yard, dig the hole well, work in plenty of compost according to the preference of the plant and then plant them in it. The best time for planting and moving plants is typically Autumn. You can also find great deals for bare root plants online around that time if year too.
I am a seasoned gardener and always have much greater success with plants in the ground, along with less stress (and less loss of money!), as plants seem to just enjoy having more space for their roots and the nutrients in the ground.
Also I think your wisteria looks lovely! You might need to prune it to encourage flowering spurs. Google it and you will find out the correct method and time of year for your particular variety. You typically prune once and then again later on in the year to shorten the same spurs again to encourage flowering spurs. It's a good sign it is flowering though, it can typically take many years before you see wisteria flowering! If you tend to it now, you should see greater blooms in the years to come.

  15. I had to buy a new car this year and bought the Volkswagen ID.4 and they have awesome programs for free charging for the first new years , etc!! All the trouble I thought I’d have with transitioning from fully gas to fully electric has actually been SO easy. Especially with the great range and city commuting.
Seats fold down easyyyy for big items or car camping 😊

  16. If it’s an outdoor cushion, why do you have to cover it? I never understood that with outdoor seating. 😂

  17. That “fern” is a plumosa fern and it’s actually not a real fern. They need super bright indirect light and high humidity. I keel mine by a south facing window next to a humidity and it’s usually happy. If it grows into the direct light it will burn

  18. Fully electric, do it! I did it in 2020 and haven't looked back. I'm driving a Kia Niro, and it's a hatchback with carplay and the seats fold flat. Range isn't a problem, just imagine if you had a full tank of gas every time you left home. I've also driven Toronto->Ottawa->back in a single day in the dead of winter and it was fine. Well, the 401 sucks, but that's not the car's fault.

  19. I seeded dichondra between my stepping stones. It was beautiful until the heat and humidity of summer (coastal NC) se5 in. In Canada it may live better.

  20. The Honda CR-V is a great car with a lot of room in the back. I have a cleaning business and can fit all supplies in the back including a vacuum cleaner, mop, etc. The back seats fold down too. This car has more power, and great traction in the winter too.

I wouldn't recommend an electric or hybrid car. The lithium batteries often explode. It even happens when the person is driving the car, and an explosion occurs. They don't say much on the news about the explosions. Could be fatal!!

  21. Just be mindful with electric cars like Tesla’s is the batteries have to be replaced every 5 years and they recycle the batteries so in Australia they end up in a big ditch, in a shipping container, in the middle of the country. I’d do a little more research before you choose to go the electric/hybrid route and see how your country disposed of the batteries and what long term affect that’ll have on the environment (since you like to be as sustainable as possible)
