  1. Well, I’m going to pass on insecticides and fungicides, unless they’re organic, because I’m concerned about myself as well as the bees and soil and other animals.😂 That said, he’s a nice guy and I learned some things. (I’ve always hated Bradford pears.)

  2. Loved listening to this and learning..still lol ever ongoing. Love evergreens so when i moved down south, saw all these cedar trees growing, thought how lovely and replanted them all over, then when i contacted my extension about problem with my delicious serviceberries, they said cedar rust! Jokes on me, Immediately pulled up and destroyed cedar trees but they said it doesnt matter, it can be miles and miles away and still become a problem. Although i had no problems with my apple trees, i did plant a gorgeous crabapple(worth planting) for pollination, i just made a puree from them. Sweetened, kinda pretending its rhubarb pudding LOL Oh and what he said about grapes, I'll prune early spring then again in June and every so often as the bunches of grapes i will also remove some of the top leaves over them. I set up the wires running from north and south, so as grapes on either side will get half day or little more of sunlight. Your garden looks marvelous, you must have been weeding like crazy Kaye.

  3. Hey Kaye, one of my favorite videos once again. Love your UT extension employee and a good use of his knowledge. This would make a great video for their resource videos as I know of many extension offices have videos that they share with their clientele and other video resources that they have. Hopefully and I am sure you gleaned a lot of useful info for your gardening in the future there in Tennessee. TY for sharing.

  4. You are so resourceful Kaye. This was a wealth of information! Lucas was an excellent source of knowledge and so pleasantly personable.
I Will pass on to my family in Knoxville.

  8. I really enjoyed the video ! It was awesome you both were sharing your knowledge with each other . I was just telling someone I was going to make my boys camp out by the sweet corn lol . Thanks for sharing and have a great weekend !

  9. Beware the info given by extension agents and I was trained by them. Think government agency bought and paid for by special interests their research is flawed. Although he genuinly seems to want to help you. Dig deeper is my mantra.

  10. I get Japanese Beatles a lot also. I do not use any sprays. I just use these Japanese beetle bags called bag a bug from Home Depot and they work wonders every year

  11. The fig I took out was a 40 year old Desert King. Was enormous but 3 seasons of bad tasting fig in spite of fertilizer and appropriate watering. Had TX Root Rot (Killed Apple and Plum) very close by and right next to it was an infected Asian Pear with Fire Blight. So, the overgrown fig had to go. Bonus is this year I am growing vegetables where the trees once were. Send the kitties out to guard the corn. Ha. Kidding but they may deter? Who knows?

  12. I choose to not ever use any sprays here for 46 years and still get abundance even though I also get all sorts of bugs and rot..but also lots of bugs and birds..I started growing wild things from pits and find many things are resistant Commercial things that ibuystruggleas they are raised with chemical management commercial trees have died here but biodynamically grown trees and organically raised trees are still fine after over 30 years in production (even if I do have to share with the worms and rot. I now make my own juices and apple sauces with absolutely no sprays of any kind and have a freezer full of berries.. I throw out (feed to the animals ) kales, cabbages & Brocolli and any thing struggling with insects and chose things like turnip greens ,swiss chard over kale and arugula over lettuce. animals also get fed the wastes too so nothing is ever wasted here 46 years not even "organic" sprays anymore The gardens feed me and the animals. I do buy hay and some feeds for the animals as clean as I can find.. but no straw .I have found people lie in order to make sales as well sadly. It is hard to" just say no" to chemicals but we are told things should look perfect …I prefer to share with nature

  13. Excellent interview, my friend! County Extension Agents rock! They can give you so much information. The first thing I did before I planted my garden in 2021 was to have a County Extension soil test done. We have a CE office here – They will also test your pressure canner regulators. Great people!
