Stocking Texas Size Food Pantry with Garden!

As our garden has come in, we have been able to can a multitude of items to put in our pantry. There’s nothing better than our own fresh produce going on the shelf to give us nutrient rich food throughout the year. Check out what we have stocked so far this year, and we expect to do so much more. Diversify your pantry with dehydrated, freeze dried, canned and home canned goods. Do not be afraid of canning your own food. We have lots of videos out on just how to do that. If you’re unable to grow your own food, take advantage of the grocery store, sales and stock up little by little.

  1. Since jars are getting so hard to find and expensive I save my jars for all proteins. All veggies go into the dehydrator for easy storage. I figure we will be eating lots of soups and stews with rice and beans. I canned 18 this week and last week. Thank God the boxes stack well.

  2. Can you do a video about all the things you do with your jalapeños? I grew six plants from seeds, first time ever and I need suggestions.💚🌶

  3. Praying for rain so you will get some relief, however briefly. Your pantry is awesome! I have been canning but nowhere near as much as you have. Our garden is taking its time producing. That's okay. Always plenty to do here.❤ Live the videos!

  4. Do you have a recipe on canning your own chicken noodles soups or soups in general? I've wanted to can my homemade chili but haven't, any tips?

  5. I love your pantry. How long do your canned goods last on the shelf I am learning got the ball book, and ordered the denail pressure cooker

  6. Great pantry guys. The way things are going you may have to dip into it. Hopefully you don't have to, but it's a great thing to have.

  7. My pantry is limited by some factors rather beyond my control—but it does me good to see what you and your husband and family have accomplished. I sure hope a LOT of people become inspired to be more sef-sufficient in feeding themselves. I know that one of the last things I ever want to be involved with is a riot over lack of food.

  8. Really impressive pantry, loved the tour Jill!! I took a cue from you and do all my flours and sugars into glass jars now. Just completed re-organizing, rotating, and dating all our cans. Definitely will keep up better on those, that was not fun.

  9. Your pantry is looking good! Since you're in Texas too, HEB will often run their shoulder roasts on sale for around $9.50 a pack. I'll buy enough to get one canner load and then dice them up in close to 1×1 squares and then pressure can them, only adding about a teaspoon of salt. We've made carne guisada with it as well as a hash with potatoes and onions and freeze dried bell peppers and even stews. You can also do the same with the extra thick cut boneless pork chops that HEB sells in a value pack. Both make a great shredded bbq and even a pulled beef or pork on top of nachos. Seasoned for tacos or enchiladas. Very versatile. Meat has become so expensive so I only splurge when they run them on sale. I think our HEB here in San Anton has the should roasts on sale right now, as a matter of fact. Anyways – awesome pantry tour!

Edited to add: If you have La Fiesta grocery store near you, they run fantastic sales on meat. Maybe not as good of quality as HEB but if you're stocking up for something that may happen, meat is meat.

  10. I'm at 338, have more tomatoes to can, just too hot, and wanted them a bit redder!! I'll do this week. My daughter found pint Jars at Kroger on the loop for 6.74 a case. She got me a case, and I went and got several more, so I'm all set for a good while!! I have peppers to do cowboy candy. Those 2 things should get me very close to the end. I stopped at an estate sale today and got a tub of 20 jars for 4.00!! I was happy. I am really set for everything now, but I can't pass a bargain on canning supplies. Who knows how much more they will go up next year!! You have a wonderful pantry. I'm trying to clean out a bedroom and make it a pantry!! I'm still not sure about this blood clot. Had another MRI yesterday and have a virtual visit with Dr. July 5th. Have had no pain. I'm praying it dissolved on its own!! But I won't allow myself to become an invalid over this!! I thought we were getting rain today..not. Take care and God bless. Much love!! I've been putting my beans, rice, and salt in the 1 litre bottles. They are heavier plastic. Hope they will be ok. It's too late to change now. Have a safe holiday. Enjoy your stay away from home .

  11. Just ordered a canning utensil set (waiting for it to come in), and I got a water bath pot from my aunt. I have been trying to pickup some canning jars at the thrift stores and have some new ones as well. I have a backup pantry as well and try to keep all my canned vegetables , breakfast, soups, condiments, etc., together in the same area.

  12. Oh how I wish our growing season didn't get interupted by family needs. I so wanted to grow the green beans. I am making salsa this afternoon went and bought some green jalopeno's to make salsa with to see if it comes out hotter than the yellow jalopenos. Yes my husband asked me where am I going to put all of my canned goods.

  13. Wow, what a great pantry! I’m hoping to get a decent harvest this year. The garden has not been a top priority the last few weeks. It’s overgrown with weeds, it rains every day all day, and we’ve got health stuff going on in the household. Hoping things turn around for us soon.

  14. Thanks Jill for showing your pantry. Because of limited space, we've spread our preps around the house. This week I'll be making salsa and canning kraut. So far I'm on target to reach the 365 goal.
Remember y'all to Pray, Plan, Prep

  15. Hey from Texarkana! Pantry looks good! I’m super impressed with the Beet Powder. Re the Bean Soup mix: are you taking the beans out of the original bag and then vacuum sealing? Also…why put them in glass jars instead of the vacuum bags? Thanks mucho! Love ya Neighbor

  16. Can't wait to get my pantry looking like yours! I just got my canner this week and the first thing I'm going start on is ready to eat meals 🙂
