Garden Design Tip from Jan Johnsen’s upcoming book, Gardentopia:
.
#46. Meet and Greet: A front doorway is a place where people often stop and talk. This is the “meet and greet” area where you welcome your guests when they arrive, and then see them off at the end of a visit. The importance of this outdoor gathering spot is often overlooked but, if you have some space outside your door, you might consider creating an inviting place to facilitate meeting and greeting.
.
The paving should match the style of the house, and the space can be somewhat formal as it is the front greeting area. Benches are especially useful when placed in a meet and greet area. In addition to seating, benches provide a spot where you can set down parcels and bags as you open the door. How convenient!
