  1. Thank you for talking about the amount of water you are giving your shade plants each week. I know it varies by area and yours is quite dry but honestly it can be hard to find a “jumping off point” when figuring this out for our own areas esp. when we are new to gardening and drip systems. Oh and redoing the swing with ropes and a wooden board would be quite bucolic; there is something about that spot that feels just right for it, but perhaps you worry about the tree with bigger folks swinging.

  2. Have you ever tried Holly Ferns, I live in zone 8 and they are green year round here. They are to hardy to zone 5. I love mine and think you would also if they could survive your winters. Thank you for inspiring me everyday to surrounded myself with beauty!

  3. Have you ever grown asarum europaeum? It'll look so pretty in the shade with the hostas and hydrangeas. It's a beautiful unique looking groundcover.

  4. I got an idea with the yews for my shade area since I can use hostas! The deer eat all of mine. I took them out and planted white Nancy Lambium because of you. It is so beautiful. Blooms until November. We are in Michigan 6B. So loved the flower show on Mackinaw Island! Thanks! Love your videos. Watch every day!!

  5. 26:18 Everything looks so wonderful and peaceful! Have you ever mentioned thoughts on ever having an outdoor kitchen/grilling area? Seeing your dining spot made me think of it and sorry if I missed it in a previous video!

  6. Laura, did you injure yourself? I noticed the last few videos you haven’t been using your auger and digging the ‘ole fashioned way. I hope you’re okay!

Loving the new shade garden! It’s going to be absolutely amazing when it fills out!

  7. Great looking beautiful huge yard…Prefect dream job!! Love the swing for baby girl you can always move it and replace yrs later, OR just keep there!! Enjoy the littles they're only little for a few short yrs. Is there a kid space with a sand pile anywhere or just beautiful plants everywhere?

  8. Your gardens are beautiful just as your kiddos. Can't wait to continue watching both. Those little Gardner's will grow to love it all as you and Aaron do. Thanks for your videos❤❤❤❤

  9. Glory days!!
    🐝 youteefull❣️
I’ve heard the average 12 year old boy is as strong as the average woman. But. The boy doesn’t know that. I always like the idea of sharing that information with kind boys. It encourages them in their understanding their growth into strength. 😊

  10. I know you said you are not a fan of hanging baskets, but several baskets with Fuchsias (with drip!) hanging from the branches would be gorgeous in this area!

You could also get a real pretty umbrella to put at the end of the table to block the sun.

  11. Why do you not like hosta flowers? Ours look beautiful and smell wonderful! The hummingbirds love them, and they’re easy to cut back when the bloom stalk gets tattered. “Tattered?” I think I answered my own question-lol. I still like them. Love you guys!😂

  12. I'm in Bend, OR- high desert west of Laura at the Cascades. I automatically thought I had way more "full sun" than I do- lots of grown trees in a smaller yard. Shifting my view to shade plants that will tolerate heat. Living in the same zone as Laura makes things so much easier😃Great shade video!

  13. Yes. I came specifically to comment that if you change that swing seat to the traditional soft rectangle, everybody will use it ❤

  14. So great to see a shade garden video – lots of ideas. I was still wondering about the watering needs under large trees. I find that some trees suck all the water (not willow!) and I can’t give enough to the perennials. What am I doing wrong?

  15. I agree with other comments, swap the little swing out for a big kid swing 🙂
The area is looking fantastic!! I have a sunny spot that is finally shade from tree growing up. I need to walk thru again with a critical eye of what needs to move to a better spot.

  16. I love it Laura!
Can you please tell me more about your table in that space? Is it weatherproof? Looking for something just like that ❤

  17. What I am wondering, is how your soil is so loose and fluffy. When I dig into my clay soil, it is like a rock and with dense roots even when I have incorporated earth and compost over the past 5 years.

  18. Those stone pathways really are beautiful. They are like the perfect earrings to complement a hairstyle.

  19. Love the switching up to a shovel for this project. I may be wrong but it seemed more enjoyable to slow down and appreciate the process 🥰

  20. Amazing project!! Do you have any wisdom about how to keep Russian Sage contained? When we purchased our home, we inherited a berm with Russian Sage. We find it’s impossible to control. On a positive note, I do like the structure and color.

  21. Always impressed with your gardening, but today I was struck by what a great example you both are to your children. Hard work equals success! Love it!

  22. Looks so good. I'm especially in love with the plantings around the spruce. Can't wait to see them later in the season. Please give us a view later on.
