#monsteramonday the first question people ask is “how often do you need to water?” but, if you understand how plants work, it should be “how is it lit?”

2️⃣ If I don’t have a light meter handy, I analyze light by asking #whatmyplantsees – here’s a wide angle view of everything my monstera is seeing: big patches of the sky from above, which is excellent light for any tropical foliage plant.

3️⃣ Compare the skylights with a floor-to-ceiling window. Look at how much smaller and lopsided the patch of sky is for a plant in this apartment. Also notice how the balcony overhang blocks a patch of sky that would be visible if there were no balcony. House plants can still grow here but the expectations for growth must be in line with what Nature makes possible – it starts with light.
