Expressive Rhythm Facade in this House in Australia

This is a house located in Melbourne, Australia, designed by Aktis Architects. The land is mainly flat with a three-meter change along its northern side, where the house was built to avoid flooding.

The house was built with two interconnected pitched roofs, each resting on a masonry box. The concrete and steel structure gives the building its visual strength and defines its architectural language.

The house is open to the south with wide views of native vegetation and incorporates northern sunlight through skylights and patios.

The use of raw materials such as wood, stone, concrete, and steel defines the aesthetic both internally and externally. The house has a linear configuration without corridors, maximizing space. The colonnade of columns on the long facade of the house is divided by large windows that contrast with the solid masonry forms elsewhere, creating a strong contrast with the surrounding landscape.

  1. A house with concrete structures that passes a cruder view with an interior that is so minimalist, is like a bunker that emerges from the ground. It seems like a museum or a foundation of any kind.
