Preparing for Grid Down!

We are working feverishly to become as self sustainable as possible. We have made the decision to start building a solar system and gradually add onto it that will support our needs and pops needs in the years to come. It’s no secret that Texas is having electrical grid issues and has since 2021. the population in Texas is increasing so quickly that we do not have the infrastructure to support it. We are taking the necessary steps to ensure Our safety and our family safety in the future.

  1. Afternoon Ms Jill. Great idea about adding the covered patio. I did that a few years ago on a house we had in Oklahoma. It was West facing and made a huge difference in the temp of the house as well as it gave us a place to sit out in the evenings and enjoy it. I agree that the solar is the best way to go to help with the higher energy bills. I would seriously reconsider being grid-connected.
I think most everyone that has eyes to see and a brain knows that this whole “situation” has totally gotten out of control. I find it hard to believe that this is happening in America! It’s not the way that I was raised. I’m fearful for my kids and grands. Lord knows what they will encounter. Be strong and keep the faith that the Lord is there and supporting you guys. Have a nice evening! God bless!

  2. This is a great video ,I learn a lot watching your videos and it has been helpful to me. Building a steady income is quite difficult for newbies…Thanks to Mrs. Pamela Willett for improving my portfolio. Keep up with the good videos.

  3. It is the time that we’ve been waiting for! Y’all are doing great. I remember sleeping on a screen porch in summer when I was a kid. God bless and keep your family now and always. 🌷💜

  4. Oh my gosh, I’m so glad you’re getting a back up battery! I work in a solar business and people that don’t get a battery can never be certain if they’re gonna have to pay electric bill. I’m telling you, if you get solar you absolutely need at least one back up battery if not two.

  5. I have a brick home here in the Texoma area and I too went to window units when my central a/c died. It was 30 plus years old so guess I got my money out of it. I really like the ability to cool just the room I'm in and since I still work full time, I can shut most everything down while I'm out. I am very frugal – so why, oh why, do I have to pay more per KWh when using less than 1000 than those who use more than 1000. Where is the incentive to save? Think i will send an email to ERCOT. And perhaps the PUC and the RRC.

  6. And yeah, you're so right on the tax increase, for the last 3 years they popped me 30% each time. My 2 bed 800 sqft house i paid 52500 in 2007, now worth 205,500 and most came in the last 3 years. The building materials like 2×4 was 2.97 when I first started buildings homes 15 years ago, now lucky to find it under 12 bucks.

  7. We're pretty "hot" about it too Jill!! Selfish greedy bunch. I like to remember the verses that talk about God raises up Kings and He also takes them down. Nothing matches His Justice does it. Looks to be a bumper crop for y'all so far, everything is looking so good. Big hugs, much love.😘

  8. I think a supplemental wind system might be something to think about. With all the dimming going on with the chem trails i have read that the panels have dropped in production by 40%. And yall need to get on the phone and dont stop till they fix it. Same on a fed level. Bug the crap out of them and remind them we exist.

  9. Hi Jill! One of the girls I worked with had a single wide and they had a cover/roof (kind of like a carport but with shingles a few inches above their home) built that completely covered the length of the home. Helped so much with efficiency. Much love!

  10. Solar contractor here!
Skip the batteries. The price point for kW delivered is not there yet. Tie in a SMALL 240 volt generator to feed back to the panel when the power goes out. You will have to kill the mains first. The solar will kick on with the current from the generator. Use a bigger genset for nighttime.
Do the math on the power return from the batteries and you will see that they will not pay for themselves in their effective lifetime.
We are rocking this in Cali on 25 acres with two houses on it. No sweat.
For a little comparison, a decent house in Cali will run you between 900K and 1.5MIL. So I wish we had your real estate prices!!

  11. And the property taxes being so outrageous would help pay for those who own nothing, so that they can be happy

  12. It sucks to no end that our property taxes are so high, and even worse to have electrical outages because the people who should expand it are not doing that. They sure are getting huge profits that go to shareholders, but no one in the Texas government is making sure that the power won't go out. STOP VOTING REPUBLICAN! All they do is screw us and hope that we don't notice.

  13. First timer here. I like your video and especially that you're in Texas!! We cut our electric bill here in Lubbock by turning off our water heaters when not in use!! It saved us about $150/month.

  14. I am in Washington and we have our problems too. Insley has wanted to take our dams out a long time ago. I hope that doesn't happen. Dams are what keep our power rates down. You hang in there, stay strong and keep praying to God to come back!

  15. I couldn't imagine an electric bill that high! We have a 2 story home and my bill was 105.00 this past month. It is only me and the hubby and we have 2 fridges, deep freezer, dishwasher, 2 tvs, washer and dryer etc…I think one thing that helps is I am surrounded with large trees. I still haven't ran our ac but maybe 2 days. I was born and raised in Lubbock Texas. I hear from friends there all the time how high the electricity is. I love Texas but glad I got out.

  16. This is what they did in California back in the 70s Proposition 13 went into effect in 1976 California I owned a house in Corona and it's labeled us to buy our first home but they took it away so now property taxes are through the roof I need prayers to cuz I don't know what I'm going to do I'm praying about Tennessee I don't know what the Lord's got planned for me I covet your prayers to sister and I'll be praying for you we're not getting any younger❤

  17. You're going to need more solar panels than I have (1400 watts). But when you get it, youll say, I should have done that years ago. It's all about the battery bank. Whatever is in it is what you have. I added a wind generator a few months ago. I just have a little GE window air conditioner, but it's free to run it if the 🌞 is out. I ran it from noon til five p.m. today. A little bit after 12 noon the meter said there was 936 watts coming in. There's always loss. Remember that you need more panels than what the ratings are on them. When they get hot, the wattage drops. It did cost a lot for someone as poor as myself. By the time I saved enough for two more panels, the ones I had got the time before were sold out. So I have five different brands and seven different sizes of panels. When I could afford to, I'd go by the AutoZone and get two more big marine batteries, until I got twenty. They run my inverter, which I burnt the power and control boards up in trying to run a little welder, once. I fixed it though. I was going to get a 3000 watts one, but they were out so I got a 2000w. It's 24 volts. You should go with 48 volts probably. Those air units pull a lot of amps. The thing about solar is, the higher the voltage, everything lasts longer, but is way higher cost every time the volts go up. The batteries that I used didn't work well with 12 volts, so I went with 24. That's about all my budget will allow. I used a 40 amp charge controller so 1040 watts is the limit. I saw 1011 watts through it the other day. I can't use any more panels on this controller. My little set up does what I need. It's like, you can get a certain amount of wattage pretty easily, and when you go higher than that, it's like the cost jumps exponentially. The more you want, the faster it becomes expensive. I just got a small social security check so I didn't go great big, just enough for a tiny home or something. I live on my uncle's place back where there wasn't any power except for a light bulb. So I just made my own. Well I wish you luck. I've got enough power for now. I can go a couple days on the battery bank in rainy weather. To go more than that takes a massive battery bank. Im not saying that it's not a good idea. Then you could run the air conditioning a lot more. I can run mine at night a little bit if I need it. But the hotter it gets the more wattage it uses, and the less the solar panels put out. So that's why it's usually best to over panel a little bit. I spent about $5200 on my stuff. It pays itself off in one more year, and I should get six more out of the battery pack. So five years of free power. Okay, that sounds better than a power outage. 😅 Well you'll see… you'll say, my God, why didn't we do this already, and own the equipment, instead of renting the power, and owning nothing? At that point, there's no turning back…my little system will save me five thousand dollars over what I spent on it. I will never go back to the grid. 😊 P.S. if there's nowhere else to put the panels except a metal roof, make them high enough to get cool air under them. It will raise the wattage. Ground mounted panels will put out more than roof mounted ones. And the panels last longer. And when you realize that the panels that are shading the porch are making the power to run the A/C, you'll probably need a lemonade and to sit down for a spell, and just absorb all that, 😆. Good luck

  18. I agree with you 100 percent. That's why I garden, canning, and fishing. I've been testing my kids how to too.

  19. WOW, you pay a lot for elec. My max electric bill is $180 a month. I do have a small 1800 SF all electric house. I'm in central Kentucky. I did buy a wood stove for next winter. I'm stocking up on wood.
WARNING!! Do not hook your solar to the grid. If the grid goes down so does your solar power. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE BATTERY BACKUP!!

  20. Prices have gone crazy for property in East Texas , the taxes keep going up and the electricity is crazy high our current electricity bill is $650 and it isn’t summer yet.

  21. Honestly please consider insulating or more of it. Esp west south facing walls. Rip out one wall face at a time if need to. Insulate then put up sheetrock. Lived in a double wide 28 years first 5 years were brutally hot freezing cold. Blew in wall insulation then eventually had hail roof damage so replaced it and put in r15. Huge difference in comfort cut energy bill by 70% when all said and done.
The west deck roof will help.

  22. It's amazing how a hand full of individuals have so much control over our lives… People need to stand up and halt the madness and greed. All we need is given up freely from the earth. God bless us all.

  23. If it is upon every Christian to spread the gospel, then how does one do so when they are not public speakers, nor preachers nor a gospel singer? What if there has to be a way to spread the gospel without saying a word or being able to sing, your voice isn't something anyone wants to hear, but your duty is still before you? What are many of us to do to help our family, our community, our country? With each of these Techniques there are words added to the gospel.

So what if we can spread just the gospel, nothing added? It doesn't matter if you do as Jesus says and preach,or how God teaches and plant a seed. What if those who make quilts can put a prayer or the Sermon on the Mount in the quilt, giving whoever receives it a covering in the voice of Jesus? Or a hatband with the Ten Commandments in it to allow someone to wear the very voice of The Father? If one is sick can we give them a prayer in a gift and pray with them?

What if each of us worked together to spread the gospel and STOP with the downing of the way other Christians do their best to help us all? We have forgotten God in our deeds.

By binding The Word, as God describes in Deut. 6:8-9, any part of it, placing it in gifts and spreading the charity, God blessed each of us and gave us an abundance of things we no longer need or want and give with The Word added as a gift to another who has needs or wants? Plant the seed of God's Word.

Why can't we as Christians spread the gospel the only way we know how and be accepted by other Christians? We are one in our Lord Jesus Christ and some of us are not those who can speak or sing. There is more to the Body of Christ than just a mouth. What? Are we all talk and no action?

People need the love, hope, mercy, prayer, songs, peace etc. that is in the pages of the Holy Bible. The Word, The Truth will last forever. Let's use every gift of God and spread His Holy Spirit across our land. This is something we all can do. Whatever you do, wherever you go, find a way to add the Holy Spirit.
    Psalms 119:151
Thou art near, O LORD; and all thy commandments are truth.
    Luke 8:11
Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.
    John 1:1
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
We have to plant seeds in order to reap a harvest. Where there is light, there is no darkness. Light up your world, spread the voice of God.

  24. Here in Australia the solar but back scheme has proven to be a scam. The only ones that benefit from it are the gov. It started off ppl were paid per kw extra power produced and paid well, now ppl get under 5cents per kw paid back, they are receiving high electricity bills and if no battery back up no power if the grid goes out.
Better off saving for big battery banks to run the whole house and ignore the gov and broken promises about but back power.

  25. I’m just south of Decatur. Major oak wilt goin on . hundreds oak trees dying and dying fast . If you have oaks pay attention!

  26. Solar sounds like a really good solution. Texas is usually so sunny… Do you mind me asking why you didn't go down that road before now?
