First Time Buyers in East London | Location Location Location | Banijay Home and Garden

Kirstie and Phil take on an epic challenge of property hunting in east London, where places can sell in days, often at open viewings, and for well over the asking price.

Property professionals like Phil Spencer and Kirsty Allsopp know all the secrets of successful house-hunting: being clear about what you want, aiming high and, above all, being prepared to compromise.
Our experts work to a brief of must-have attributes: number of bedrooms, character property or new build, but the most important aspect is always… Location, Location, Location! From auction houses and estate agencies to websites and word-of-mouth, they leave no stone unturned in their quest for the best. They then have the unpredictable task of showing the house hunters around a shortlist of properties that appear to fit the bill. Will they have judged their tastes correctly? Do these people even know what they want?

  1. Yes everybody does Love Phil and we also love Kirsty wonderful banter the two of you have with each other so entertaining!!!❤❤❤

  2. I want the flat with the lovely garden ❤ shame I can't afford it 😢 it strikes me as a single persons home .

  3. The house for Mike and Jamie works out perfectly, as the loft can be used to store the 160 pairs of sneakers. This being said, I hope Mike starts thinking of the future and investing his money more wisely than on pairs of blobby rubbery shoes that look just about the same as any other pair of blobby rubbery shoes. That is hardly something that will increase in value, quite the opposite; these shoes lose 75 percent of their worth the moment they leave the store, and for what? Even a car would not depreciate as massively. But his money, his choice.
All the homes shown to Katie and Victoria were beautiful, including the one they chose in spite of their initial reservations. I'm sure they will be happy there.
I wonder how it feels living in an upside-down flat, but ultimately it can't be much more inconvenient than living in an above-ground flat; I'm thinking carrying groceries in and the like. The space they are getting easily overcomes any potential drawback, in my opinion.

  4. Great episode, sweet couples. Personally, I would have gone for the small cottagy house with the backyard. I don't think you can beat owning an actual house that has a yard. The boys were so cute and funny! Thanks for uploading, more, please!

  5. No London bloke would ever have wanted 'safety' in the good old days – he'd have got a good duffing up. And the prices never fail to horrify me. Insane does not even begin to cover this debt trap created by bankers

  6. Why do people, have a top figure to spend, and then say “we’re uncomfortable spending our top budget”? Perhaps they should give a figure they’re comfortable with – and stick to it

  7. Kirstie needs to shut up about babies – it’s none of her business. One day she’ll come across an infertile couple and upset everyone terribly

  8. Enjoyable flat/house hunt in the East End from 2015 – I find it surprising First Time Buyers are thinking of nabbing something to grow into, rather than looking at it as getting a good toe hold on the property ladder. So much can change in 4 or 5-years when you are starting out.

  9. same here: the quintessential" cute/wild cottage garden adds way more to quality of life than a little bit more house sq footage: a true little paradise for some smart buyer…. plus, i thought the upper living room sloping attic roof a bit confining [still, they are happy, that's all that counts i guess].

  10. I found the boys' house in the real estate ads when they sold it in 2021. Funniest part was one of the photos was the bedroom with an entire wall of basketball sneaker boxes! Confirmed it was theirs. 🙂

  11. Given that men are three times as likely as women to be victims of violence, it's not very nice of Kirstie to mock Jamie for being concerned about his safety.

  12. Interesting! But it's the maiden hair fern in that delightful house with the window entry to the magical garden that caught my attention.
My gran's garden had so many pots of that fern. Now seems impossible to buy. Extinct hereabouts, I think😢

  13. The "girls" certainly saw more interesting properties than the "boys". The large flat was a good choice for them. Why worry about the high-spec finish when all it consisted of was a little green patterned wallpaper and some sculptural sofas?

  14. I think it’s the loveliest tv couple in Europe hosting a series about buying a home which is a topic everybody is interested in. ❤

  15. East ham is a disgusting 💩hole.. filthy rough as f**k with disgusting low life people.. East London used to be so much better years ago.. too many filthy foreigners, it's spot the white man.. you have no chance if you're white your life will be hell…

  16. Perv alert – again. They are WAY more over-represented on UK television than in real life (less than 2% of the population in reality). Getting fed up with having them crammed down our throats in the media constantly.

  17. Kirstie, a safe neighborhood isn't necessarily about people attacking you personally. It's also about people vandalizing your property, breaking in and robbing you, or doing drugs in your doorway, peeing in your doorway, soliciting for sex or selling drugs on your street corner. You can be a HUGE guy, and still come home to find your house has been burgled, vandalized and taken over by squatters while you were away for a week.

  18. Mike & Jamie are true friends!!! Great to see both sets of buyers find their 1st flats in East London. 🙂

  19. A house with garden is better than an upside down flat with sloping ceiling, sorry but you made a poor choice
