Soil aeration – being conscious of the soil structure is just as important as the soil moisture. Whenever you water, as the water trickles down and wets the soil particles, air is pulled in, which aerates the roots. This is passively aerating the soil and will work to a certain extent. When you manipulate the soil structure by aerating, you are taking an active role in soil management and becoming more aware of the soil environment.
