  1. Hi,
Honda izy are good and reliable £500…Weibang 17inch cut £500.00 with variable speed a massive difference..
Honda 537 a excellent machine £800.I would take a look at your budget and see what you can get for that price..
Honda are very reliable but for me a variable speed is essential..
Hope you manage to get your answers…

  2. 16 inch self drive, Honda IZY. My first ever mower 10 years ago and it’s still going strong! It always reminds me of a child’s toy! Make no mistake it’s a tough machine. Paint the deck once a year otherwise it will rust. Although I think the new ones are composite Decks? Pay the extra and get the self drive. Great for small lawns and it’s come to the rescue a few times on bigger jobs. I used it to pay for my next mower ……. Honda 536 pro….. they just make money! Resale value is also good. But I’m never selling mine! 😅

  3. Honda engines last forever. In the case of the older Izzys the decks rot out before the engines give up. As for collecting wet grass a Stihl RM253 would be better with it plastic collection box. Although it won't give as nice a cut as an Izy. I've also found Izy's to be a bit slow. But that might just be a personal preference thing. I'm not sure if you can get a high lift blade for the new Izy's. If you can. Get one. If not, then if the budget will stretch, I'd also consider a weibang with a high lift. But they are heavy machines compared to Honda etc. But I wouldn't be without mine now. I have the shaft drive and it's the best mower I've ever owned.

  4. For the best all rounders buy a etesia best in wet grass, brilliant on over growing lawns. Grass collection is brilliant, light and best of all can take a beaten

  5. I've used most brands over the year's and the izy will has been a consistent and safe buy that won't let you down. That being said what your really buying is tye engine and would always go for a Honda, briggs and Stratton aren't up to the task not enough power. Mountfields own engine is good similar to the Honda and I would say if you can spend a little more than you probably want on the best mower you can tye quality from mid range to high end mowers is very noticeable. Pays off in the long run.

  6. Yes, had the self-propelled Izy for some years now. Fantastic. Small and not too heavy. Reliable and does not clog up. Powerful enough to take a whole bunch of hedge cuttings and mince them up, including Holly. Yes great for small gardens which is 90% of the work. Yes, there are times when you want a larger one for big lawns and a mulcher would be great but as always one has to balance outlay cost against how much more money it would make. My Izy was second-hand on Gumtree. £200 and a bargain!

  7. I wouldn’t bother with a new Honda Izzy thay are rubbish we have them in the shop weekly a really bad design thay seemed to miss a vital part lol to cover the drive belt you will be getting belts done constantly thay burn up so quickly it’s ridiculous

  8. Ran a few izys mate good solid units, I know Honda are stopping making them in 2024 or so I've been told but obvs parts will be a doddle to get

  9. Best mower iv owned is the izy! People saying it’s slow haven’t realised that you can turn the torque up to speed them up. My dealer told me that the revs are effectively turn down for sale so that they comply with the emission laws! My dealer hired the revs after sale and it flys along now 👍🏻

  10. I love my Honda Izy. Started off with a Cobra like yourself but it was a rear roller and too heavy for every day use on and off the van. I got my Honda Izy HRG 416 self propelled from Gumtree for £120 second hand and it had just been serviced and was immaculate and I used it all season and it never missed a beat, took some hits and kept going, fits perfect through small entrances and is decent on fuel and leaves a striped finish due to the plastic flap at the back. I have just bought a Stihl RM650V to compliment this for the wet days and to change the speed on larger lawns but if you shop about and can get a good one cheap you won’t regret it

  11. Iv used both the honda izy self propelled 16 and 18 the 18 seems to be better build quality and there brilliant u can work in all weather with them and there brilliant

  12. Get a Honda hrx 537 mate , Honda Izzy rust after time on the decks plus the 537 had a mulch setting on it too and can put it on 50% mulch to collect and also leave some on the grass good for summer time when it’s burning up leaves some protection for the existing grass in the lawn , also would get a mower with a roller on the back Honda hrd 535 or something they really stripe up well and stand out a mile , I have hrd hrx and 2 other smaller 17 inch versions of them 2 so in total 4 mowers and they all get used as much as each other can never have too many mowers mate , only downside to Honda now is they are going out of production for hand mowers after this year so maybe after this year parts might go up but I’m sticking with my Hondas untill they a beyond repairable and then may have to think of another brand in 5 years time , but defiantly Honda hrx 537 over Izzy any day of the week!!

  13. You can help with grass pick up by keeping your blade shard and keeping your bag clean make sure you can see light through it if you hold it up to the sky lol, jet wash it at a petrol station.. high lift blades help to,they don't sell them for my mower so I bend the blade tips a bit more and the difference is unbelievable..up the revs on your mower, one more thing you can do when it's long and wet is unclip a side of your mower bag for more air flow… I do all of these things together and the grass bag is packed full every time.. good luck 👍

  14. My boss started with a Honda Izy and has had a few in the years I've worked with him… We still have the one I started with on my first day (8 years ago) and still going strong. Honda engines go through all sorts of abuse.

    Defo recommend them!

  15. Honda Izy's have always had great feedback in store- Honda converts are often found to stick to them, they hold up for a long time. The Stihl RM 448 VC is comparable to the Izy – with regard to specifically cutting in the wet the Stihl grass bag suction works out better and it's easier to clean- it's a polymer plastic deck also avoiding issues with rusting if that is a concern. We have a comparison video between the Honda Izy and Stihl machine on our channel if it helps 👍

  16. Maybe if you know someone who has a Honda Izy you could try it out to see how it performs. I am very fortunate that my brother services garden machinery as he is a Agricultural engineer. About five years ago he bought a second hand Toro Timemaster for next to nothing, it needed a few parts like drivebelts, pulleys and a couple of bearings which cost about £150 and it was good to go. For a big mower it is brilliant, really easy to use and with a 30inch deck it cuts grass beautifully quick and leaves a great finish.

  17. I have a Honda izy. I bought it second hand, and I love it. It might be a bit slow for larger lawns, but perfect for me.
If you want to lay down lines in the lawn, the izy isn't best for that, so you might want to look at a Hayter or a Honds HRX model.
    Good luck

  18. I might be buying a Honda izy SK EP my first ever brand new Honda. It cuts and collects and it mulches. 18 inch self propelled.I will be getting it from a company called Sam turner and son's and I am using clearpay to pay for it. I have been using Sam turner and son's for about a year and they have been BRILLIANT. Go to there website for your gardening machinery and pay by clearpay. 10 out of 10.

  19. Could you do a video on some tips on how to look after your accounts/book keeping? I've had my business 6 months now and I've never done my books before.

  20. I’ve had an Honda izy for about 1year now bought it second hand for £65 apart from needing a standard service, I cannot fault it but I find in the wet like yourself it struggles to get the clippings into the bag, but you can get a mulched blade fitted as well as the standard blade so maybe that may work to cut the wet grass? 😁

  21. Honda are about to stop producing mowers so that is something you might want to think about as in spares.
I personally run hayter mowers and they are great with the added bonus if not rotting the deck out.
Best budget mower for the starter has got to be the mountfields simply flawless for the price apart from the dreaded deck rot after a few years hard work.

  22. I used to use Honda lawnmowers until I used a weibang. The first day I used the weibang I then went and bought another then sold all my Honda mowers. Maybe a bit more maintenance on cables. But in my experience the drive cables went on the Honda just as often. The weibang collects in any weather and is slightly slower than the full speed Honda, bit more of a walking pace rather than jogging behind your mower. All I’m saying is my experience is better value for money but the Hondas are a great machine.

  23. Honda izys are great mate. Defo keep the cobra as a back up. I've had my izy about 4years atleast now and with regular servicing it's never let me down ever. As for grass collection in the wet, a few things that will help (and generally for all mowers) are 1. Keep the blade sharp, 2. get the revs of the engine turned as high as safely possible (my mower man does this) 3. Keep the under side clean and debris free and 4. Keep grass bag clean as this helps the air flow. I try and do all that and overall I get a full if not 3/4 full grass box and less clogging. I bought two great Viking mowers off of eBay and they have plastic grass boxes which I've found to be even better for wet grass, as they have better air flow and easier to clean.

  24. Trade up to the HRX if you can afford it it has mulching lever too plus roto stop system you wont regret it

  25. Brilliant mowers, my first did 9 years till the deck finally rusted through. Changed for a new one this year.

  26. I love my little IZY. I've worked it hard, but a bit OCD about cleaning & maintenance with all my gear! Great machine for smaller lawns, with a smooth, reliable, quiet engine. No point wearing yourself out pushing a big mower around smaller lawns (even if they have driven wheels). This machine is light & maneuverable. Mine has a painted steel deck, which can obviously rust eventually if it's not cleaned and oiled fairly regularly.

  27. Yes the izy is a very well made mower, mine lasted 5 years. In the end it was the autochoke and the drive belt clutch playing up. Personally I don't like the gcv160 engine because it vibrates too much, there are smoother engines out there. I've have not tried the latest generation though. My advice would be buy a professional lawnmower designed for all day use.

  28. I had an Izy but swapped to the sthil rm 248 ,just as light , central height, brilliant vacuum, cheaper and has never let me down but just wish it had a Honda engine lol 😂

  29. I have the cordless 16 inch Honda Izy and I love it, lightweight and sometimes depending on grass condition it leaves stripes. feels and looks more professional as it has a steel deck and very reliable. my uncle has a 2001 izy and it's still going

  30. i have an IZY 1 negative point is the handle is really low for me i'm 6ft 2in and i have bent down to hold the handle.

  31. Hi mate
I run Honda HRN216 21inch mower’s got plenty of power and bag good come in push and self propelled , they are a bar blade but can be fitted with a four swing back blade set up. Food for thought cheers mate 👍

  32. Might be a bit late to this but… I've owned an 18 inch self propelled Izy for 10 years and used it commercially on domestic lawns. In all that time i've changed the oil annually, the air filter every two years (cleaned out regularly) and the spark plug maybe twice and the blade once (sharpened annually or when i've hit something solid) I've also replaced the cables once and had a touch of welding done to the deck. I'm about to buy a new mower for this season and will probably buy another Izy. Keeping my current one as a back up and for those rougher jobs. Would highly recommend even though i'm looking at the equivalent spec Stihl that i can find for about £100 cheaper.
Best wishes for the upcoming season,
    Kliff
