  1. Use the wood for the raised beds, but really do not cut any trees before you have replacements already growing. Trees grow slow, and they do a lot for the environment. There are some edible mushrooms that can grow in pine wood as well, so after a few years of growing mushrooms from it, you can then use the spent wood for compost.

  2. I saw a guy in Florida who grows some Yams in plastic grow bags around his pine tree, with excellent results. watch?v=qUztGqSBmQE

  3. I think plastic used for storing food is qualified for plant use. You can check that triangle symbol, usually at the bottom of the container, if it's safe.

  4. Don't we drink our milk, water, tea, juice, and eat food from these plastic containers already,  on the daily?  Why stop at growing organic food at home???  Many people like myself only have a small balcony and a tight budget.  I say go for it…..use those milk jugs, if need be.  I am…

  5. I'm renting my home and I'm looking to build a portable raise bed. Any suggestions?

  6. I've been using "food grade" pails to grow my vegi's in and they have grown great. I'd like to think the food grade pails  are okay to use as massive amounts of food we eat are stored in them….home beer brewers(and wine) use them….everything bakery's use comes in these pails.

  7. Hey John. I've been lightly researching plastics to use in growing. Have you come across information on acrylic plastic with regard to plant growing?

  8. One day that 2 year old daughter will hear that dotcom story from her parents and look up ur video. And thanks to you, she will end up reading that book you blatantly recommended. Lol I'm sure her dad appreciate how you ended up recommending a book that introduces a promiscuous lifestyle 🙂

  9. Just what we needed to know, thanks! Isn't the story about the little girl just adorable, what a sweetie!

  10. Any suggestions on a bottom liner for cedar raised beds? I don’t want the garden soil on top of the lawn that’s been treated. Plastic seems to be the only option as cardboard, newspaper, and even logs/sticks will break down eventually.

  11. Hi john didn't know that cement was natural – what are the natural ingredients and is all cement natural?

  12. Some hdpe containers stink to high heaven. Can't be safe. Also isn't concrete toxic & radioactive? Glass is impractical but might be least toxic?

  13. Re plastic containers. Check the bottom of the container. It should have a wineglass and knife an fork sign on the bottom meaning t is food grade. But yea better to use wood or hessian sacks which are good or fabric containers.

  14. i plant my tomato in Normal plastic bottle (Coca Cola Bottle) by hydrophonic system.it has no food safty number in it.it exposed in sun light.if it releses chemical then in which degree of celcius tempreture,it starts to relesees chemical?i know, these coca cola bottle is not a good example of plastic but if i use it,will it be harmful for plant and fruit?

  15. 2:16 is where you'll hear about plastic containers. 3:58 —-NO. Concrete leaches chemicals. Never use concrete as a container for growing food. Concrete will affect negatively the ph of the soil in the container.
