Roots and Refuge Farm: Sharing the garden (Here, smell this) | VLOG

Hey ya’ll, I’m Jess from Roots & Refuge Farm

Welcome to a place that feels like home. A small farm with a big family. We hope you’ll pull up a chair, grab some coffee and visit awhile.

There was a time that all I wanted in the world was a little farm where I could raise my family and grow our food. Now, that is exactly what exists outside my door. In watching it unfold, a new dream was formed in my heart – to share this beautiful life with others and teach them the lessons we’ve learned along the way. Welcome to our journey, friend. I am so glad you’re here.

  1. You know what else smells really good? Lilly of the Valley! Sweet, like spring. We had a bed in Missouri in a shady spot. It was my favorite, then lilac. Mmmm!

  2. You could better say, "That is what we are waiting for now*." [If you were waiting "on" something, you'd be sitting or standing or lying on it the way people wait *on a bench while they wait for the bus to arrive "]

  3. The garden is so beautiful! I feel like i would spend so many hours in the day just wondering around admiring it😂 Chamomile in Greek means something like apple on the floor/apple of the earth, chamo(χάμω) – on the floor/earth and mile(μήλο) – apple

  4. The genes in miahs family are strong you can very much tell that’s his sister. The garden is looking amazing ❤love and prayers from Canada while I live vicariously through you as I await all the things!

  5. I love sweet peas as well. Did you all know that only the annual sweet peas have the fragrance, and the perennial variety do not?

  6. I vote you call the veggie high tunnel 'Al Dente' 🙂 I miss you when you take a day off lol. I know you deserve it, busy mom life but, I'd watch you garden for hours every day lol

  7. Sweetpeas are intoxicating! Most amazing scent ever! It’s so hard for me to grow but I finally had a successful crop this year. Trying to enjoy them before the heat kills them off.

  8. Camomile in Spanish is “Manzanilla” meaning “Little apple or tiny apple”. I’ve never really smelled fresh Chamomile, so I’m excited for mine to bloom this year to see if it smalls like a “manzana”. 😊
Lovely walk with lovely ladies! 🙂

  9. If you think sweet peas are the ultimate scent, you should smell freesias, that one I think you will never ever forget, but they a hugely difficult to grow, I tried.

  10. How do you keep from getting an infestation of a type of pest when you let it have the energy to multiply?
I have tried to use a trap plant but it didn't work that time. I had this question in the back of my mind. I wondered if once it was full you were supposed to destroy them before they moved on.

  11. That's the thing with bugs. They go for the weakest plants. If all your plants are equally strong, the bugs will spread throughout the entire planting.

  12. I just read to not grow different types of mint in same bed. They will cross pollinate. Have you had volunteers of strange smelling plants the next year?

  13. What a nice video, loved watching your interaction with Miahs sweet sister and how you shared all the lovely smells of the garden herbs and flowers. Ben is adorable, and a lovely happy child.

  14. one of my friends used to make cucumber water, put some cucumber slices, a slice or two of lemon or lime and handful of mint in a big jug of water with some ice and let it set a spell, really refreshing in summer.

  15. Jess, I'm not sure that you'll even see this but I wanted to ask you what brand soil you buy to start seeds. My plants did well till the fungus gnats invaded with a vengeance(last 2 years). I'll bet I've lost up to 30% of my starts. Almost ready to buy my starts instead. I've sprayed with h202 mix, nematodes, need oil & DE. Hope you can help.

  16. Mikayla is a delightful young lady❤,
same eyes as Jeremiah, I was wondering that is the last verse of her tattoo, its interesting,
"when I run out of road….

P.S her R& R T-shit is darling, mine are currently shipping ,cant wait to wear them ❤
