Desert GARDEN TOUR | Southwest Homestead

Hey folks!

I have been waiting ALL YEAR for this. But honestly I have been waiting since last fall for this as well. I could not be more excited to begin this 2023 garden year and I’m stoked to be bringing you along!

I live on a .5 acre homestead in southwest New Mexico, in the high desert. Our last frost was just last week and I have finally planted out all of my summer vegetables in the raised bed garden and the in-ground garden. So I have the utmost pleasure in giving you all a garden tour today in my “just planted” desert garden.

Unfortunately, due to my poor timing and the sunset, I was unable to also give you a tour of the orchard and the front yard garden, but that will definitely be coming up soon!

  1. You have green chili and eggs, you are prepared for the apocalypse!!! And surely, you’ll have tomatoes (I think you’re going to have so many you’re going to be overwhelmed). Potatoes, onions (start some cilantro indoors) and you have the perfect New Mexico garden. I don’t remember, do you have a pecan tree? I highly recommend for your weather conditions.
I did the same thing you did with the pumpkin but with a watermelon. I hope I get a bunch of watermelon like you have pumpkins.

  2. The gold medal are the best orange/yellow variety! I've noticed that the seeds I save germinate better, faster, and they're stronger. Good luck with the season.

  3. I’m so excited for you. Everything looks great. The tomatoes should go green again since I think I remember you adding fertilizer and compost. The purplish is potassium or phosphorus and yellowish is nitrogen. My dad swore by 10-10-10 for his tomatoes so I do the same ❤

  4. I know all too well about burning plants lol. But there's definitely a plus to being in a dry climate, we don't have to deal with a lot of other fungal or disease plants from the humid weather. – Christna

  5. Impressive! Good job, I'm learning a lot from your video's. Thank you
