  1. Robert, you will need to start a compost bin so that you can use your composted material to enrich your soil for next years garden, good organic material to amend your soil. πŸ₯¬πŸ«πŸ₯•πŸ…πŸ₯¦πŸ‘ The Old Byrd Farm is really coming alive again, good for you Robert! Thank you to Miss Vicki for helping you to get things started.

  2. Listening to the birdsong in the background, it is just so good for the soul to be getting your hands dirty and being productive growing your own food. I live in a small 2 bedroom place in an over 65,s complex and I have veggies growing in large black plastic tubs. It gladdens my heart to plant and grow and eat. Well done Robert, you will enjoy eating your the produce of all your hard work.

  3. Miss Vickie is correct. Save some of the seeds, what I do is save the biggest ones. I surmise then that the seeds have a good chance to germinate next year.

  4. Trust me when I say that the reward you get when you eat your own home grown produce, is sensational. I absolutely love to pick enough fruit and vege to eat for that nigh,s dinner. You cannot get the food any fresher !! You can also freeze any excess.

  5. Just found your channel. First vid Ive watched. Going to go back and watch your progress. I love history and the fact your getting a old farm back running again is awesome. Wish more would do it.

  6. Your friend is so knowledgeable. What horticulture background does she have. Who Is videoing? Cheers Lynne Victoria Australia πŸ‡¦πŸ‡ΊπŸ¨πŸ‘πŸ»βοΈ can’t wait for them to start growing. Going to look amazing!

  7. So happy to see you farming Robert. Your smile while plowing made me giggleπŸ€—
I could just hear those wisteria vines screaming for mercy all the way up here in TN! I knew if you ever saw what a disk and plow could do to those vines, you’d be hooked.
Your farm has a purpose again! I’m so happy for youβ€οΈπŸ€—πŸ

  8. Robert you're a man after my own heart plowing and planting seeds !! I'm getting to old for it now but boy did I ever love it in my younger days !! I love your excitement anf enthusiasm !! You go boy !!! Nothing's more satisfying and enjoyable than working the ground & planting & then comes the harvest !!!

  9. I'm surprised the other Robert hasn't told you what his Grandpa always used to say about farming!

  10. My goodness Robert it’s going to be quite an adventure, killing up the Earth that hasn’t been worked in many years, and I’m just thinking of all those wisterias that were covering the property. I can see it now they’re not gonna raise their ugly heads again.❀❀

  11. Awesome decision to get the plow! I wonder if a pitchfork after you plow, would be good to get up the grass roots, it might be easier to lift up the roots. I learned something new from you! I I knew green brier root was used in making root beer along with sassafras and birch root, but I didn't know it was edible! That to me as a wild food forager is great to know, we have so much of that growing here that I will harvest some and give it a try. πŸ™‚ I think you have made good choices with what was chosen to plant. I love spring pea pods myself and carrots, radish and turnips ahh so many veggies I love! I wish I had the land to do varieties of summer squash, I love the green and yellow types. oh and the butternut as well. I am so happy for you, I remember my first time plowing a field, awesome experience indeed! Will you have a herb garden as well?

  12. I can’t over the beauty of your dirt. It looks so good. Gonna have much success with your farming.
I sure could use a Miss Vickie. She’s definitely very knowledgeable on gardening. Your surly blessed to have her.
    This is all so exciting.
Yep, Robert goes way back in his blood line coming to be a farmer 😊. β™₯️β™₯οΈπŸ˜ŠπŸ‘πŸ‘πŸŒŸπŸŒŸπŸΆ

  13. WOW, you are going to be busy with that large of a garden!! You will have to spend a lot of time getting all that produce picked and the weeds under control!!

  14. Good πŸ‘ the beginning of changing starting…great job…try to clean the πŸš— and pull out..maybe make one side for all to give you nice decorations..

  15. Looking great, Robert. You will love the Calima Bean…one of my favorites. Happy growing 🌱

  16. Danny over at Deep South Homestead says that every few years he has to deep plough the edges of his fields to cut the tree roots.

  17. I have to grow my sunflowers in my shed protected from birds and critters till they are about six inchs tall; otherwise, they will all get devoured. Even in the shed I have to cover them so a mouse won't get to them.
