Gardening at a Mile High: Plowing and Discing with Vintage Equipment

We love to grow a canning garden. In this video we will show you how we prep our mile high garden. We only have a few months to get everything grown and put up before winter is once again upon us.
We have spent the last few years working on the health of our soil. This year we will use a deep mulch method of gardening that will hopefully help us reduce the amount of water we have to haul to the garden, but will also help us to move to a less invasive tilling method.
Watch us as we use a vintage John Deere plow and a trip disc to get the soil ready to plan. It’s not often you see a rope hanging out of the back of a modern tractor. You won’t want to miss this.

ABOUT US:
We know that off grid living is a broad term that defines many different situations, but for us we wanted to take a slice of what our own families have done and make it a part of our life.

We live in Central Idaho, on the original homestead of my husband’s family. They established it in the late 1800’s. Many of the buildings that you will see us working in and around have been around for much longer than most of us have been alive.

Our own home has been build with 80% re-purposed building supplies. We like to reuse and re-purpose whenever we can. We are always looking for ways to be “more than consumers” of our land, our resources and our time.

Our goal is to take what we can learn from those who have gone before us, and honor those things. We value what our families have done and been through, and we hope that you will enjoy this little story time as we introduce ourselves to you.
