  1. Oh, my…I have always wanted to see Kew Gardens. I love The Secret Garden movie and I was also told, that the maze in the movie, The Shining, Is actually in Kew Gardens. I wonder if it is smaller than it seemed in the movie. Please say it is, so I won't keep longing to go there. I hate to fly. LOL

  2. We have a few neighbors who are downright voyeurs. We had to build – and add on to – a privacy fence. The lattice was not enough as they would stare through it. I added old sheer curtains, which look a little odd but it had to be done. One neighbor even complained when he lost his view of us! We have a short growing season so can't rely on plants until later in the summer. Good fences make good neighbors!!

  3. .eight foot high bamboo canes in a upside wigwam style, planted in big pots with las th.e summer to Sept climber nasturtiums, or a evergreen climber, put at where nobody can see in your garden, this works fully and a picture to see rather than needy eyes.😳

  4. Don't forget the bees and butterflies. Make sure to choose plants to help them. Please don't use poisonous chemicals. Plant yourself a fruit tree while you're at it.

  5. I have a long, narrow, shady strip that’s overlooked by neighbours houses, in my fantasies I made it to a ‘secret garden’, impossible task? I’m just working on it by planting trees.

  6. I got grape vines growing thru my 4' tall chain link fence, nothing man made could look so beautiful, just wish I had added on 2' of lattice on the top so the vines would make it 6' tall. I can add it but it takes time for the vines to grow. I'm in USA, Michigan, vines mysteriously started growing about 10 years ago. One the 3 bordering neighbors was a snooty old coot that kept cutting it down but she's gone now. The new neighbors don't cut it down and I'll add the 2' lattice before it grows.

  7. Good tips! An obelisk with a climbing rose! That is what I want. And what a delight that you do not push your book in all your videos. Whenever a channel I follow stoops to relentless pushing of products, I unsubscribe. So glad that is not you! And good luck with the book!

  8. I so appreciate all these suggestions. I have wire fencing near the house on both sides in the back garden, it's rather ugly fencing with no privacy. So I am adding wattle panels to them that I build from garden branches I've pruned. The panels are easy to make and can be as big as you like, my sister says it looks like a Hobbiton fence 😁

  9. Madame, I could listen to you speak all the day. Lovely advice, thankyou. I have neighbors in the back that I need to block, don't wish to see their trash and frankly, prying eyes.

  10. A time and place for all things. Yes, sometimes we wish a bit of privacy, maybe dealing with a situation and you don't wish a disturbance, I still think a hardy tree is best or a wall, it can also act as a windbreak! Careful garden planning from the start is great, unfortunately things change, a neighbour moves away and there is new adjustments. What about a good sized all-weather garden umbrella, those you can move around. As always thanks for your informative discussion, maybe I have a spot where my neighbours feel uncomfortable and I can look to see what changes I can make. It is not always the other party that's at fault!

  11. Interesting. I have a small yard that needs privacy screens that can fit in very narrow spaces, and that either needs no wind protection or could provide some protection to the garden. We have frequent drying winds.

  12. I have no human near us .My problem is wind to stop from three sides .Have planted tall hedges and trees but take so long to grow makes it a strain until all reaches at least 7 feet tall from 3 feet now

  13. I love this. Subscribed and bookmarked. You provide theory along with practical considerations and an extensive range of ideas. I have a hostile neighbor who yells profanity at me and tosses bottled water and garbage over my privacy fence from her raised back porch. Her husband has apologized to me for her behavior. At this point I conclude she has mental issues and any provocation would only escalate. I fear she might poison my dogs. I am looking into options to block her view and her projectiles.

  14. We introverts appreciate the peace of solitude, but my sense is that my neighbors don't seem to possess "prying eyes."

  15. Hi …this is so interesting …I have an issue with privacy the neighbour can't stop talking to me over the fence …I could add a trellis on top of the fence however I get a lot of sun from that side and I love the sun ! I'm struggling to work out what to do …?

  16. I'm looking to put up a few stockade fence panels in my yard to block the view of my neighbors noisy dog and to not see my neighbors unsightly yard too…nice people, bad yard and dog!

  17. Parasol is a great idea for privacy. I have a tiny front yard and I’m getting a fence but will definitely consider this.
